Maybe it's because my primary hobby used to be detailed scale models, that I have a nit to pick with the JL cars. The overall level of detail is exceptional. I have all three IJ cars, plus one Import Heat, and another Cooper S.
There are two distinct castings for the IJ cars, one for the Coopers, and one for the S, all with aero kits, and spots. They look awesome. The BRG/W Import Heat car is a different casting, with proper Cooper S features, without the aero kit. All four of these cars have decent renditions of the R90 wheel, and low-profile rubber. The DS/W Cooper S seems to share the body casting of the BRG car, but it has awful, undersized wheels and tires. They apparently were more interested in having a 6-spoke, pseudo s-lite, than having a wheel of the proper size.
I was trying to swap wheels from one of my spare IJ cars onto the DS/W car, as the IJ is destined for "play", while I want the DS car as a miniature rendition of my Cooper S. The wheels do not easily come off the axles, so now I'm thinking about drilling-out the rivets, and swapping the bodies. Has anyone else tried this?
For some reason, collecting these little cars has rejuvenated my interest in my full-size car. Just when my S was beginning to seem like common transportation, the pursuit of the collectible little cars reminded me of why I was so excited about the Cooper S in the first place. |
