Remember, because of the low voltage on a Car battery, it depends on lead area (size) to pull current through, if your amp does not have sufficient power, it will pull too much through and burn the lead out. Possibly break other thing and could cause fire. Use the thickest stuff you can find, you will be surprised how much better it sounds.

And also remember that amps do not push their RMS value, they punch peak higher, and therefore need more power, consider a power cap, but not a big one, a 0.25 or0.5, farad is sufficient.
