This sounds pretty crappy. Performance parts notwithstanding, think of this for a minute. If someone had a nice new One or Cooper, and drove it in the City, short trips, and blew through their muffler in 3 years, and got a non-performance aftermarket muffler fitted, this blows the remaining year on the engine's warranty?
In North America at least, Muffler shops are big business, and rarely fit OEM parts, but rather house-brand mufflers that meet or exceed those OEM specifications. I've never heard of this voiding an existing powertrain warranty.
This seems grossly unfair.
P.S. How long would the stock OEM exhaust on a One, Cooper or S last? Any guesses? Is the S's all stainless steel? Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!
