It is still computed using the ABS sensors. By inflating a tyre more, it's size is increasing. The ABS sensors will notice that there's something bigger than it used to be and report it. Calibrating the system to the new settings simply tells it that this is the new correct level.

I expect someone can explain it better than me though!
