thanks for the clarification here because by saying pattern you really confused me in your original message. As for the shifting directions, I believe you already have the solutions to your inquiry. It is indeed pull back to shift up and push for down just as the sticker says next to the shifter so it is indeed the identical style in the BMWs.

You are right in that it's push to shift up/pull to shift down in the Porsches. Below is a pic of the transmission setup on the 993 generation 911s so it is indeed correct. AFAIK, the current 996 generation of 911s which are equipped with tiptronic tranmissions only have the button shifts on the steering wheel for shifting.
