Unless Elephant have changed their policy VERY recently the person you spoke to is either wrong or misleading.

They will "cover" you. I.e. they will make a note that you have these modifications and/or options and therefore wont void your insurance for "undeclared" non standard specs. HOWEVER, their policy states they will NOT replaces ANYTHING that is not standard. Aircon, larger alloys, leather seats, ANYTHING that's not on a bare spec S/Cooper/One/Whatver MINI you chose.

Try BMW Insurance (& MINI Insurance, and they ARE different), as well as Liverpool Victoria.

Also, try using the search engine (www.mini2.com/forum/search.php), it's VERY good. You will find many threads like:

ELEPHANT.co.uk insurance warning
MCS Insurance in the UK
Insurance with Liverpool Victoria
Modifications and insurance premiums?
UK Cooper S insurance
Insurance Mini Cooper S

And many, many more.
