It will still cost about £30 a tank, diesel or petrol, I think diesel currently cost's more. The fuel tank is still the same size , its just you get more miles per tank in the diesel.

It does not seem that much slower once you get moving. The engine is very smooth and quite punchy after 2000 revs.

If anything i would say it's more fun to drive.

I don't regret switching from a Cooper to a diesel one bit.
