It does not seem that much slower once you get moving. The engine is very smooth and quite punchy after 2000 revs.

Ditto. Although I went straight to a D from an Alfa 156 diesel.

I am a regular on SCNM runs and while the S's well out-accelerate me, it's not long before I'm back in the pack. Ergo, in real world situations you definitely will not lose out, either on the road or in your wallet.
