Loud Roar with the AC on

I live in Texas and have run the AC on my Nov MCS the whole time I've owned it because I just leave the Auto AC set to 70. The car runs great and I never had a problem until 2 weeks ago. Now I can hear a much deeper roaring sound to the engine as I am reving up to the next gear. It is so loud I can't hear the supercharger. And it doesn't do it all the time. I drove around over the weekend for over an hour before it started making that sound as I moved from 1st to 2nd and 3rd in downtown traffic. Seems once I'm going, like on the freeway, I don't hear it. and If I cut off the AC the roar goes away.

Is this normal for the hot months of the summer?
or should I take him in to be checked?
