Go to edmunds.com, spec out an '04 or an '03 MINI like yours in the used section. See how much its worth. That's the benefit of paying MSRP, the resale values are pretty insane. While you're there you can check out edmunds' true market value, which should (I haven't checked recently) also be MSRP. However for something like a heavily rebated old model, the TMV could be 5K under sticker.
In the end, do you really care if you saved $500 or something? Its not like you have gotten a MINI for $3K under invoice, so its totally worth the full price. An 'old' '04 for $1K is just price gouging, and your dealer should be ashamed for trying to sell it at that price.
