Your dealer gets the registration number from the local DVLA office - if you ask in advance and if you're lucky, the dealer should be able to give you a choice of three, though you'll probably have to give an answer there and then. The number plate will then be made up at your dealer - it should contain a MINI logo and your dealers MINI web address.
These could have been pre-registered dealer/customer owned cars sent from dealers to use the specialist facilities available at Thorne e.g. the KDS wheel alignment machine. Dealers without a KDS machine usually send the cars up there. Could be any number of reasons really.
