Hey people, this is my first thread on here and any advice would be gratefully received.
1) I picked up my new 170bhp Cooper S (I managed to persuade my dealer to fit the
JCW badges and exhaust tips) on July 15th 2004 - No problems..
2) Few days later I noticed that a strange clunking noise was happening when I was moving from 1st to 2nd etc... And thought that the problem was coming from the exhaust so I telephoned my dealer and was told not to worry and that the noise was a standard feature...
3) A week later this noise was staring to bug me so I decided to have a look up the exhaust pipe... I discovered that where BMW (Main Dealer) had fitted the
JCW exhaust tips they had cut the exhaust pipes in a jagged fashion in order to get the tips on... I then telephoned my main dealer to tell them and they informed me that that was the only way to get the tips on the exhaust...
4) I then decide to telephone John Cooper Garages and give them all the details of the car and ask them if any cutting of the original pipes is needed to fit the Wrks tips on the exhaust.... I am told "No cutting is needed as the
JCW exhaust is bigger than the standard exhaust" ....
5) By now the strange noise which is starting to sound like a miss-fire or back-fire is getting louder and louder and is happening more frequently... I take the car into the main dealer as I cannot stand this anymore and am told.. "Oh.. Well we shouldn’t have fitted the tips to the car and will give you a new exhaust butt will not fit the tips... as for the noise we don’t know.."
6) Has anyone experienced this strange noise with their car? And knows what the solution is?
7) Does anyone know the dimensions of the Cooper S Wrks Exhaust for the 2003 & 2004 model? And if it is actually smaller than the 170bhp Cooper S?
