I only had the noise when driving and it was more pronounced if I shifted at higher rpm. The clunk was definately from the shifter/transmission. At first I thought it might have been a bad linkage bushing, but the tech was quite sure it came from the transmission.

I have the burble/pop when letting off the accelerator pedal. I actually enjoy that sound though.

Did your clunk sound like it was coming from the exhaust? only mine sounds like some sort of Del-Boy backfire but only not as loud...
