Hi all --
Firstly, this is such a great site -- kudos to the moderators and regulars. What began as mild curiosity about MINIs has, in the few months since I stumbled upon this forum, blossomed into my seriously considering purchasing a MINI when the time comes. Considering that I was/am totally in love with the 350Z (despite its quirks), this has been quite the turn around.
I read on another thread that MINI may undergo a redesign for 2007. I've seen the concept pictures and me no likey. This adds another layer of stress to my decision-making and money-saving plans since I'll probably be in the market for a new car in November/December 2006. So here's my question - when do you think is the absolute latest I could order /spec out a new 2006 before I'm stuck with either buying an already fabricated/"used" 2006 or a 2007 model?
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to M2 - and congrats, you have definately made the right decision on MINI http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachment90336.jpg
There's a rumour that the current model will cease production some time at or around March next year. Apparently, the factory tours finish at the end of March due to the required retooling for the new model. So my guess is February/March will be the last possible build month(s) for the original face of MINI.
I'd recommend talking to your dealer to see exactly when their build slots close - it is possible you may have to do some shopping between dealers, as I imagine a lot of people are considering the same thing - and nabbing a 'last of the Supercharged' - before the new churbo MINI arrives (I know I have done!).
I'd say to bargain on March being your last possible build-date though, someone might be able to confirm it definately, but my searching has come up pretty solid at March being the end of the Mark I's.
Hope this helps,
Scotty

Thanks for the feedback, Scotty. Unfortunately, there is no way that I'll be ready to purchase any car in the next 4 or 5 months -- November 2006 was already pushing it -- so it looks like I may have to take my chances with whatever is available when I'm ready to buy. Here's to hoping that the 2007 MINI isn't hideous.
mini vanilli -- Wow! 3 cars in one year?! That has to be some kind of a record. Thanks for the input. The MINI and 350Z just seem so different, it's hard to believe that there are folks like you who exist -- who have purchased (and liked) both. From comparing different testimonials on this board versus a 350Z forum I've found, I get the impression that the MINI is the car to get if you're in it for the long haul. But man, it's hard to get over the dazzle of the 350Z.
Thanks again!

I've heard several answers to your question & it's anyones guess right now who's right. I do believe that when they change over production to the new 2007 it may take a while. Too me the car looks so different that there will be many changes to be made to the assembly line. I would go to your dealer & make friends with an MA there. Tell him what you want to do & maybe he'd call you when he gets solid info. They are sure to know before we do. You are on the right track 2006 not a 2007.:D

Any more info on this question? Anyone else ask their dealer?
Scotty, trading in your beaute or keeping it and adding a second? :)
