: struct brace pkman Oct 17th, 2005, 10:50 AM Just a quickie -
Has anyone mounted a struct brace on their Mini Cooper??
All I see are the ones for the Cooper S.
If you have - where abouts (link??) and price?
Thinking on getting one.

Hi,
We have used an OMP strut brace on both our show cars (ONE & COOPER S). There are a number of designs that are available to you. Ultimately they all do the same thing stiffen the front end of the car.
Have a look here http://www.lohen.co.uk/Pages/Products.html under "Chassis" and you will see all the relevant information as well as price.
If you have any other questions then let us know.
Cheers,

Thanks,
Just had a look - the OMP one seems to be the only one for the Cooper which is fine. It is at a funny angle...is this because it needs to clear the battery?? And jsut checking...the bonnet doesnt scrap or touch the brace at all when you put it down?
Cheers Lohen Oct 17th, 2005, 02:26 PM The OMP is slightly raised on one side so that it clears the battery or induction kit. You would have to take the bonnet lining out as the space is pretty tight (but thats not that crucial a part), we also wrapped the highest point of the brace in insulation tape so that there is no damadge if the brace touches the boonet under hard cornering.
Andrey wils Oct 17th, 2005, 05:22 PM so does that mean this OMP stut brace does NOT fit cooper without modification to the sound deadening? is there a way to adjust it so that it's lower? and so that it fits without cutting out any of the lining?
thanks

Not really, you need to remove the sound deadening (it is fixed with plastic screws - dont cut it as you can then reverse the modification) on all models. You cant lower it as it sits on the top of the suspension points, which are your structural points.

what i meant from can it be adjusted lower is as it's adjustable, i presumed that u could just make it tighter or something and the thingy would lie lower...i know that the suspension points can't go lower :p
thanks for that info...if i can remove the whole sound deadening then maybe this mod is still in the cards for me...didn't want to be cutting into anything :)
thanks andrey :)

I agree with you here...shame some thing needs to be removed in order for it to fit properly.
Might sound stupid here - what does the sound deadenign material do? Does it just stop the engine sound going thru? and does it make a huge diff to the noise?
This strut brace is def on the cards for me - seems to help cornering alot! Lohen Oct 18th, 2005, 08:54 AM I agree with you here...shame some thing needs to be removed in order for it to fit properly.

I think it is designed to keep the engine noise down while town driving (those poor pedestrians  ). It doesnt really make much diffrence once you start modifying the car as the engine note get louder and the exhaust is louder. It also covers the wiring that runs through the bonnet (water and power to the lights). So you wont actually loose anyhting if you take it off.

It is adjustable in the length, which helps to tighten the chasis once it is fixed. So you cant really lower it at all. If you pop open the bonet you will see lots of black plastic screws with round clips, pull all of them out and the sound deadening will just come down and fitting it back is a reverse job.
