From the MINI USA press release:

MINI USA has collaborated with the extreme California based tuner FIREBALL TIM RACING (FTR) to create a one-of-a-kind record-breaking dragster. The extreme MINI made its show debut, beating 300 competitors to win the "Best Engineered" award at the Hot Import Nights in Phoenix, Arizona Saturday, October 15th. . . From the coolest Japanese and German tuners to high end exotic wonder cars, the MINI dragster wowed judges and onlookers with its polished under-hood hardware and eye-catching graphics. MINI USA provided FTR with a carbon-fiber bodied, 1700lb MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works and an assortment of parts and accessories to create the 500 horsepower + twin-charged drag monster. . . Hollywood car designer and constructor Fireball Tim (Lawrence), and partner, import drag racer and tuner, Hubie Fuh have built the show-stopping MINI dragster. . . FTR currently holds the title "World's Fastest Street MINI" with a turbo, supercharged and nitrous powered MINI Cooper S pulling 12 second quarter-mile track times.

500 hp is a little hard to believe, but the car IS sweet!!... that's the kind of car I need! :D (quick! someone take a count of how many people are rolling their eyes or saying "Derek,Derek, Derek"... LOL) :D

Now this would've actually prompted me to rent that last Batman movie... but alas.. I hate the Batman series anyways... oh well..

the car is still being tuned but it laid down 470whp on the last dyno and it still has more in it. The car cut a 1.70 60ft time Sunday and besides having shift linkage problems and high end cut out of the car .... keep your eyes peeled for mid November when the car hits Palmdale and the car smashes into the 10-11 sec barrier

Please tell me MINI USA is going to have a contest and give that car away.. I think they should give it to me.. perhaps an essay writing contest?.. :D :D

maybe I should just start that rumor.. :) of course MINI USA could just hand the keys and the title over to me to shut me up.. :hmph:

From what I read, the best run was 12.54, but they snapped a motor mount due to torque and lost 2nd and 3rd gears

here's the quote from the Fireball Tim blog

POMONA ENDS WITH A BANG!!

Well, maybe not the bang we had hoped for, but great just the same.

3 runs. First, Dr. Fuh slammed the M600 off the line with such force
that his pants nearly flew off!! But a few "getting used to shifts" led
hiim to ease up and save the power stroke for the next run. Resulting
in a whopping 21 seconds. Oops. Smart move actually...

...Because the second run was better, duh.

Run two took off like a blast from the past! 60 ft time was 1.70
seconds.!!!

But again, the little car that will, slipped. In fact it slipped twice
and threw a few pops as it tore up the asphalt. Maybe spark plugs,
maybe too much torque. But with all those boo boos... the M600
Flamethrower hit a 12.54 @ 115mph! A 12.54 WITH BOO BOOS!!!

After skirting back to the pit, we gathered to determine the cause of
the flaws. The Doc, The General, The Widow, The Hal 4.0, The
DynoMaster, and The Fireball.

But all was not lost, even though the track dudes from NHRA bumped us
from ET1 to ET2 because we missed a run. Seems many people missed runs
because of the disorganization. In fact people were ****ed. So, the
circumstances were this.... We'd have to do our third run and be dialed
in at 14 seconds. That means that if we get better than a 14, we get
DISQUALIFIED!! WHAT!?? This shows you the mentality of the track guys.
We get a 12.54 and they bracket us at a 14. And this happened to
several others!

Anyway, the Doc's choice was to hit a 14 or higher and stay in for the
finals. (As long as he won. No problem.) Or...

GO FOR IT!!!!

SLAM! The foot hit the gas like a lurching cheetah after a 10 day fast!
And the doc shot off, no pants mind you, and SLAMMED it into second
gear so hard the at sheared the engine mount right off!! The torque was
massive! The now tweaked shifter cables were takin' the hit from the
motor's lurch forcing him to shift from 1st to 4th and hit the NOS! And
with all that nonsense and a broken mount, the Doc reeled in his
competition and WON by 3/10ths of a second!! Just under 14 at 13.93.
Disqualifying us in the throws of victory!! WHO CARES!!?? WE WON, WE
BECAME THE WORLD'S FASTEST AGAIN, and we created so much power the
little car snapped a wee bolt... Aahhh, ain't it a sad thing?

Mean moderator would like to send this from NY/NE regional forum to Racing MINIs Forum. Obvious reasons.

Hope you don't mind, Pete.
