: Coolant cap missing . .

Hi all,

just after some advice regarding my Cooper cooling system. Today while filling my washer fluid I noticed that the cap from my expansion tank was missing. I've not noticed the car running badly and have no idea how long it has been without the lid. Looking in the expansion tank the fluid level is below the Min mark and is a kind of dodgy brown colour

Planning to pay a visit to my dealer tomorrow but just wondered if I'm likely to have done any damage (I've not been under the bonnet for a few months so could've been driving around minus the cap for a while). Also is there anything I should specifically ask the dealer to check/do.

Grateful for any help or advice.

Many thanks

The fact that there's still water in there suggests that it'll be fine, if it was empty and you'd noticed the car overheating it would've been worse ;)

The brown water is a common complaint, there's a lot of stuff on here somewhere if you do a little search ;) Nothing to worry about though I'm sure. :)

Thanku ButtonIt.

That was what I was hoping to hear. I was just concerned that the cap could have been missing for a while and ended up doing some damage to my pride and joy.

Cheers again

Yep no worries Max, not planning to drive anywhere until I have it sorted.

Kinda happy I ran out of washer fluid and found the cap to be missing (don't venture under the bonnet very often!)
