Just thought i would put this on if anyone was interested, i installed the sony psp under the switch controls, this now means that i can watch movies, play games and listen to music all through my Harmon kardon Hi fi system via an auxiliary input lead, whilst installing the lead (around £90) from BMW i have lost the ability to use the CD changer but this is made up by a 1GB memory card in the PSP which holds couple hunderd MP3's and the quality is great. I can also still use MFSW for volume control and the psps controls are so easy to use and in that position they are situated prefectly for use with your left hand (if your cars right hand drive)

After that i decided i wanted somewhere to put my mobile phone, so for anyone with a Sony Ericsson out there you may want to consider this as theres no drilling holes etc, you will however loose control of your door mirror movement but this was not a problem for me

you will need to order an official Sony holder for your phone, i have the w550i and ordered the holder from ebay at £30, after looking at the shape and realising that there was nowhere to put it that suited i looked at the door mirror control switch, its more or less the same size, heres what to do if you want this install (as i said this is a simple switch of the parts, nothing permanent and would take about three mins to put the control for the mirrors back)

1. pull up the circular plastic surround at the bottom that surrounds the gear lever gaiter, raise this up and pull the leather part inside out

2. now reach in towards the rear of the car and if you apply pressure upwards you can remove the mirror control panel, watch as this is attached to two leads which control the mirror movement

3. apply slight pressure to these leads whilst pressing on the tugs with a small screwdriver and they will come out, you should now be able to see two black philips headed screws, take the right one of these out and store it somewhere safe.

4. you can now put the holder (without all the stupid fixings) over the gap and you will see it covers it perfectly, then get a screw the same thickness as the one you removed but about 100mm in length, preferrably in black, put this screw through the small aerial connection hole in the cradle and screw it into the hole that you removed the small black screw from (if that makes sense)

you now have the holder in a secure place and it sits there nice, its not in the way at all and is very easy to use!!!!!!

If you want to go a step further than this you can run the audio connection lead (that you got with the phone without the earphone part attached) from the connection on the cradle in under the plastic casing and out behind the two cupholders, if you have the auxiliairy imput lead installed you can also out this on and answer all incoming phonecalls through your car speakers and if like the w550i your phone has an mp3 player, the phone will pause the music being played and answer the phone for you, how cool is that.

PS i tried to attach pics but dont think it worked, i will have to reduce the size and try to re-attach:)

What holder/cradle have you used for the PSP? I want to hook up my PSP and I am looking for a suitable holder. Pics of your setup would be good.

have the pictures taken but the site wont let me upload them as they are too big, i will try to get a program to reduce them in size, as for the psp i bought a Mad Catz casing for it, cost me £15, its an aluminium body design and i simply removed the front of it and left the rear housing, this suits great as it holds it snug and allows access to all buttons and imput/charger leads etc, i then used brackets mounted in under the control panel and mounted them to the back of the cradle, perfect fit and i couldnt think of a better place to put it, the audio and charger leads are then hidden by the cradle, nice and tidy. Again i will try to get some pics on, if i cant email me on parsey83@yahoo.co.uk or send me your email address and i will forward the originals on to you

Download Irfan View. It is free and works very well to resize (and more) pictures. Very easy to use. You can get it from the Tucows website linked below.
