: Has your MINI made you a more aggressive driver? Annette S Feb 6th, 2006, 08:25 PM I would definetly say I drive faster in my MCS but I would also say I am still considerate, I try not to pass on the right unless totally necessarry, I let people go in front of me in intersections, But when i'm on I-95 I find my self moving a lot faster than I probably should, I hit 114 MPH on 95 the other afternoon coming back from a job. and I tell you she purred like a kitten.:D :D
That's me as well! (Although I don't think I've had it quite that fast yet). Scott, while reading this, the "I-95" caught my eye - thought maybe you were somewhere over here in Vegas! We also have an interstate 95 on this side of the world, and there's a part that goes right by downtown Las Vegas that's mostly downhill - would be easy to get it up to that speed if the traffice weren't so congested!:D :: Jon :: Feb 6th, 2006, 08:41 PM nope ayde_bury Feb 6th, 2006, 08:41 PM It doesn't have to be the speed that makes it fun, it's knowing how hard you can push these pocket rockets, and then going a little bit further:biggrin:
15 miles across country with twists, turns and adverse cambers makes visiting the parents worth while. I'm sure they've noticed I call in more often now I have a MINI. Wonder how often the'll see me in the new MCSc :D
Overall I think I drive about the same as previous cars - reasonable, and with zero points on my licence :p fraujmj Feb 7th, 2006, 07:02 PM Ummm - yep. Sure does. My husband *normally* hates to be in the passenger seat of any car that I'm driving - says I drive like an old woman. Laugh's on him now - he doesn't mind anymore. However, even my friendly neighborhood gas-station attendant commented that I've been buying more gas since I bought my MINI. So to try an experiment with the mileage I took a short road-trip and drove conservatively, fuel-economically, cruise-control-at-75 mph, etc, and had absolutely NO fun at all . . .even if my mpg's on the OBC read 34 mpg. So I'm back to burning my average 22-23 mpg, FUN (but still safe!!) passing, 85+ mph, not-afraid-to-pass style. :-) Scott4399 Feb 8th, 2006, 12:13 AM Haven't had the pleasure of driving in Vegas yet just walked around the time I was there.
95 has some pretty good stretches up here for straight aways, just have to avoid the state police traps. spf Feb 8th, 2006, 11:59 AM I enjoy driving my MINI far more than any other cars I have driven.
However if anything I am more courteous to other drivers and try not to cut anyone up, as I am more noticeable / distinctive. (I don't want someone trashing my precious car because they recognise it in the street or running me off the road next time they see me!!) Good point, not like the generic novas of the past, the minis are all very unique. Carnut17 Feb 16th, 2006, 02:32 PM Wow, didn't expect such a big response!
I only drive fast when it's safe, and around here that's not too often. Driving around here is like being trapped in a cage, so when the rare open road comes along, it's freedom! I miss my former state, California, where I could blast through a canyon to the beach, then take a nice leisurely cruise by the ocean, then tear through another canyon to go back home.
I am a BMWCCA member, and I will definitely take advantage of the autocrosses (not track days - convertibles not allowed). Driving around here is kind of like an autocross - just with potholes and inattentive pedestrians instead of cones. 00Seven Feb 16th, 2006, 06:24 PM Recently swapped a MkV Golf TDI for a Mini One Seven.
The Golf was capable of going very fast whilst making it feel like you were plodding along.
In the Mini it feels like you're going a lot faster because the driver is so much more involved.
So, whilst it feels like I'm driving more aggressively, I'm probably not (well, maybe around corners ...)
Plus I've noticed more people let ME out of junctions than they did in the Golf :-) Dawn Feb 16th, 2006, 09:09 PM Recently swapped a MkV Golf TDI for a Mini One Seven.

A bit different for me, i swapped my Golf TDi for a MC'S , and i thought the golf was fast !!
In the MINI, i get no respect, no one "lets me out", all i get are White van man wanting to sit in my boot, middle aged men in company cars, arms on the door , trying to look cool wanting to race you, yes, its made me more aggresive, but i can live with that, its the look of shock on the faces when they realise im a girly that beats all , and the fact that that "little MINI" is quite quick helps :) Spotty Dog Feb 16th, 2006, 09:16 PM I like playing tha shadow game with alot of 'muscle' cars. You just pick a safe distance behind them, and stay at that distance no matter how much they try and 'get away.' I can feel their frustration :D Usually Mondeo ST220's or other 'I'm a rep' 2L+ cars. I love my MCS!! Random Feb 16th, 2006, 09:52 PM I definitely drive my MCS completely differently than my 740IL. Of course that may be because the Bimmer is about 1500 LBS heavier. ;) RedUn Feb 16th, 2006, 10:07 PM I drive mine normally:rolleyes:
12k miles and i've gone through 4 sets of front tires:eek: :p
not my fault my works is down 20 mins of country lane blasting:D
editted to say I don't think it makes you drive more aggressive I just think you tend to drive faster more often as the car is a lot more capable:) | |
