Hi!

The topic might be irrelevant for most MOD owners in the world ... because rather few of us are living in places where it gets colder than -15/16° C.

But for those of you who do I can report that here in Germany we had lots of problems during last month with pre-05 built MODs not running at low temperatures due to fuel flow problems.

The fuel filter at the MODs is located close to the tank in such a position that when the diesel (even winter diesel) gets thicker (flocculating) in the cold the filter gets blocked. The effect is that the engine might start but will die as soon as you try to drive (i.e needs more fuel) EML will come on. I could not use my MOD for 5 days in January.

After some discussion BMW is now retrofitting heated fuel filters under guarantee (at no cost) on MODs with less than 100.000 km and younger than 3 years (currently there are no MODs older than 32 months :-).

In case you need a MOD that is working below -15° (skiing in the Alps or so) you should better talk to your dealer ...

In case you live on the green islands don't care and forget about the strange story ;-))

That's good to know. I wonder if the Toyota Yaris suffers from the same issue as it's the same engine?

AFAIK it's not an engine issue but has to do with the plumbing and filter location.
This might be completely different for the Yaris

Thanks for sharing this information with us, very interesting!!!

I wonder if this is any way related to the hot starting problems (when the external temperature is below 3 Celcius) that some of us have been suffering?
