hello guys

just a quick question
ive had my cooper for 1 year and and its only clocked up 6k from occasional use
the thing is with my old cars i use to service then regardless how many miles i did every year, now i have the tlc pack but bmw/mini said that this does not happen on mini and i should go by the reading in the car saying how many miles i have left till i should service the car

now i think this is a bit rubbish and it was a waste of money getting the tlc pack
esp as the car wont be doing the miles

am i right in beleiving tlc is 50k miles servicing or 5 years??
if this is so i wont be getting the full benefits of tlc

as in 5 years the car wont of clocked much more than 25k in five years and will be even lesss when i get my other car??

TLC for £100 is cheap no matter how many miles you do or dont do. I would guess even an oil service is going to cost you more than £100.

I'm in the USA, and just had the 1 year oil change done by the dealer at just over 5k miles. No charge by the dealer. The service booklet does say that the oil should be changed annually even if you are below the service system parameters. It's hidden pretty well in the wirte-up, but it's there and the dealer was emphatic I should have it done. They do not reset the service indicator when doing this interim service.

if you drive anything like me then you will probably burn more oil than normal people anyway....

and i know tony probably has due to track use :D

The TLC pack alows for your MINI to be serviced according to the mileage indicator or every two years, whichever comes first.

So even if you do very low mileage the TLC pack will cover you first oil service at 2 years, and then you first inspection service at 4 years old.

Now seeing as the TLC pack is £150 and my local dealer quotes £130 just for the oil service (I hate to think how much the inspection service would be) the TLC pack is the biggest bargin going!

And don't forget that the TLC pack also includes your first brake fluid change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wongy: In the US we get a separate "service and warranty" booklet that spells out maintenance. In the section on intervals and inspections versus oil changes, there is one sentence saying that the oil should be changed annually. Can't offer any info on non-US policies. No harm in calling your dealer, I guess.

I can gurantee 100% that in the UK the service schedule only requires a service after two years if you have not done sufficient mileage.

The service and warranty in the US are different than here in Europe. In the US, everything is covered under warranty including oil changes. However, here in Europe it varies from country to country. As a US citizen in Germany, my warranty is the German warranty which requires me to pay for my oil changes. Unfortunetly I can't get the TLC package for the additional coverage. The upside is that the BMW dealer is ok with us bringing our own oil in as it is really expensive here.

Once I move back to the US, my car is picked up under the US warranty specs for the rest of the time left if any.
