Hi Folks,

Don't really write much in this forum, but have to share this with you. My wife has a Mini One which I found a wee tad on the slow side. After searching e-bay one night a company on there was offering 138bhp upgrade for £179! So bought there and then. I had to wait two weeks to have the car remapped and I'm just this minute back! OMG what a difference. The One now flies. It's a total transformation. The car just pulls strongly all the way up to 7000rpm. on the way home I managed to severly embarrass a Cooper. Even gave a guy in a Porsche Cayenne (non turbo) something to think about. I simply gob smacked with the difference. I have to use 97-98 octane fuel but to be honest a £4 a fill more than 95 it's not a problem.

having a K&N panel filter fitted tomorrow so hopefully a nice sound aswell.

Right I'm off out again. This could end in divorse! I'll keep the Mini.

Stevie.

The company's name is Shire Tunning owned by Jamie Shire a top bloke! He has 100% feedback on e-bay with over 320 delighted customers.

the product has a 3 year guarantee and is TUV approved! The recommended price was £399 but he has a buy it now on e-bay for £179........worth every penny!

My car is out of warranty so I had no issues there. It has also covered nearly 90k miles but is as sweet as a nut (touch wood)

Not doubting what you have said stevie but i just wondered if anyone, who have had this company chip their mini, have had it rolling road tested against the claimed increased performance figures? I am a little sceptical!

Jamie from Shire tuning did mine aswell. Can say that it is a hell of a lot faster, quite fast upto 4 thousand then it just wakes up and kicks you back. Not sure about the rolling road, will get that checked out sometime soon, but at the end of the day i'm 18 and i'm very happy with it :D

This sounds too good to be true  :)
However...
We need some info from this company to back up their claims.
Agreed?
I've just sent them an "ask seller a question" message that reads:

Hi, I'm interested in an ECU upgrade for my MINI. 138BHP is well above what other well known tuning companies are offering for this car. Do you have performance graphs/statistics that you could email me? How was the 138BHP figure measured? Dyno/rolling road tested? This increase sounds to good to be true! Your 100% feedback speaks volumes about your product but I would appreciate some technical info. Many Thanks

I'll let you all know what response I get :)
I'm quite tempted by this mod but...138 BHP?
(More than what established/known tuners are extracting)
What's the catch?!

Good thinking Widgey, keep us updated! If its all its cracked up to I'm getting it done ASAP!

Widgey

And this is what they said:

Hi,

We do not have our own dyno but our customers have had these measured themselves, most we've seen so far is 137bhp, but the guys in Germany have seen 138bhp!! All cars will differ slightly and also no rolling roads will ever read the same as another!
This is only when fitted with a induction filter and optimized for 98oz fuel. With the 2005 onwards models this power is not possible, only 125-130bhp.

Jamie.

To be honest i think its well worth it considering the price is about £100 quid cheaper than other well known companies. I'm assuming the quoted figures would be the same for a cooper?

Mar 18th, 2006, 03:22 PM
Hey guys,

I really recommend it, the guy does know what hes talking about,i'm not saying its definatly 138bhp but it is a hell of alot faster than the standard one and i've definatly embarassed the odd standard cooper haha.

He gave me the full ecu normal map on a disc aswell so can revert back to standard at any time. Like i said guys, in next couple of months or so i'll ta\ke it for a rolling road test and let you know.

How much are rolling roads usually??

You mean you return to normal everytime you go into dock at BMW?

stevie32

Right.

Here goes, i've interupted an England V Irelane game for this.

I had owned 41 cars to date. Including M3's, V8's Pinto's, A sieres, srtiatght sixes, V6 capri's, Rx's, and the list goes on. But jamie has given me a genuinely quick car for £179. Wether it be 138bhp! or not ( I think it is) look back a few years and 20bhp would have cost you a mint!

linners2005

Go on ebay, search for mini chip or remap. Find the one that is shires tuning or SP tuning and do buy it now on that. 179.99 for the job and 30 quid travelling expenses.

Jamie is a really nice guy aswell.

Do you get a diagnostic tool to change your mapping between standard and remap whenever you want? That might be the difference in price... You said your warranty's finished, but for some people they need to convert back to original mapping in case of warranty issues and so it's better to go for one that offers the diagnostic tool. In your case though very good deal!

No warranty issues with my Mini One so for me it was a cracking deal. Pretty sure that the mod is undetectable though, so warranty issues shouldn't be a problem.

so I would like to come back to this topic with a different question. The folks who have gotten it done; could you inform us about any changes in your fuel consumptions please? How much of an increase was there? Its been few weeks since anyone has written on thiss topic so, if anyone has gotten a roadtest please let us know :)

cheers

Ok,

I found this thread to be interesting for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I was grabbed by the impressive claims of performance increases beyond that of other remap specialists. I mean, coaxing 138bhp from a One with just an ECU upgrade?! :aargh: Secondly, the price was almost unbelievable... now updated to £199.00 but still much cheaper than a Bluefin remap which goes for £299.00. So, I figured I'd try to compile everything into an update and also chase down those who had this option installed to see if they're still happy with it.

Users who (judging from previous posts in this thread) purchased and installed the "CHIP TUNING REMAP suitable for the new BMW MINI ONE" from Jamie (sp-tuning):

SHIRES PERFORMANCE TUNING (http://www.sp-tuning.co.uk)

The interesting thing here is that he mentions the necessity for an induction filter, where it's not mentioned on his eBay shop, seen here:

eBay.co.uk: CHIP TUNING REMAP suitable for the new BMW MINI ONE (item 130105885893 end time 05-May-07 09:30:28 BST) (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHIP-TUNING-REMAP-suitable-for-the-new-BMW-MINI-ONE_W0QQitemZ130105885893QQihZ003QQcategoryZ32094Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)).

So, does this mean that the remap comes with the uprated induction filter when purchased through eBay? The eBay advertisement lists that they are:

"AUTHOURISED AGENTS FOR SPEED-BUSTER."

In doing a Google search for "Speed Buster", this website comes back:

Speed Buster Chiptuning--UK chiptuning aand tuning box supplier for petrol and turbo diesel cars (http://www.speed-buster.co.uk/)

If you click through the flash on their website, you eventually get to the performance figures for the Mini. The installation of this will give the following performance gains for the Mini One:

* * * * *

Standard Mini One:

Power (hp): 90
Torque (Nm): 140Optimised Mini One (identical to a Standard Cooper):

Power (hp): 115
Torque (Nm): 149
* * * * *

Interestingly, their website details differing performance gains for the Standard Cooper to the Optimised Cooper (have a look at their tables). It was my understanding that apart from the ECU the One and Cooper were virtually identical (if anyone can explain this, please do)?

In visiting the SP Tuning website (SHIRES PERFORMANCE TUNING (http://www.sp-tuning.co.uk/)), they advertise an "all-inclusive" price of £399.95, much more in line with other performance tuners. So, are these services identical (bar their means of payment) and, if so, which one is the real price?

Also, have those users who had their cars tuned by Shires Performance Tuning, have you conducted any rolling road tests since you last posted? Also, how has your Mini's reliability been affected, if at all, by the SP Tuning product installation? Now that we are a year down the road and you have the benefit of long-term experience with the product, would you with hindsight place your order a second time?

And I think that about sums up most of my questions, and my fingers are getting tired so I'll let someone else get a word in. ;)

Many thanks,
Andrew.
