Do you think that when the 2007 minis arrive with the new engines that the old model (chrylser) engines will be less deserible and come down in price?

Toying with the idea of ordering a 56 plate S which will be the last build before the new turbo models. Is this a bad move?

Hmmm, I was also seriously thinking about getting one of the last S models before the turbo replaces it! But unfortunately the house has to come first this year  which means I will probably have to wait for a 57 plate and a turbo :( If I were you I'd deffo get a 56 plate S because they could be very highly sought after in a few years time, especially if the new turbo isn't quite as good as the S.

Thats kind of what I was thinking, as the 56 will be the most sought after being the latest revision before the turbo.

Plus the tritec engine run is much shorter than the planned PSA/BMW engine run, that coupled with the fact the MINI keeps getting more popular, the Supercharged S could become in demand 2nd had to some people fairly soon.

It is an extremely rare situation where there is not a significant price drop for the out-going model. In my experience buying at the end of a car's lifecycle is a bad idea. There are exceptions (which have been driven my engine changes) but this an take time to manifest, such as the 993 to 996...993 second hand prices now almost identical to newer 996 (say a '95 993 versus a '99 996)...doesn't happen very often and usually happens a while after launch of the new model if and when some buyers decide they actually like the old engine better.

I am doing the same thing. I think the SC S will hold its value quite well as to the purist it is a unique car. Turbo's are dull as dish water......no thank you.
