: Will the new 2007 mini affect price of existing model???? maxdude May 10th, 2006, 11:48 AM I am holding on to swap my ONE for a 2007 MCS and was just wondering if the release of the new variant will affect the value of the existing model??? Would it be worth considering selling mine prior to the release of the 2007 in order to get a better sale??? Appreciate your thoughts on this.  Hat May 10th, 2006, 11:54 AM the short answer is yes its bound to affect resale of the current model. the new model will make the older one less desirable, plus there will be a flood of cars being traded in for new ones (like yours). ALD0 May 10th, 2006, 07:29 PM Sell now ;) smc May 11th, 2006, 05:12 AM Sell now ;)
Yeh, when the 07 proved much reliable with no rattles, clutch and gearbox problem, I believed many will trade in. BlueZed May 12th, 2006, 08:35 AM How old is your One? Is it worth keeping it for a while still? If it's relatively new you might as well hang onto it for a couple more years and trade to a second-hand '07-on then. If you are definitely going to get the MCS next year, then I guess now is the best time to do it, as not many ignornt car-tarts will know about the new car yet.
I absolutely agree that the current model will lose a little bit of value due to lots of people wanting the latest model, but at the same time it probably won't happen immediately due to people wanting to see how good the replacement is first. Even then you're not going to lose great huge chunks of money.
The existing MINI is still a seriously good quality bit of kit and drives and looks better than most things on the road right now(without buying an Aston...hmmm...Aston...). OK so maybe the engine isn't the most refined compared to imminent Bemmer lump, but the A-series was never refined and I reckon it keeps some of the old character (minus the oil leaks and petrol fumes).
Looking at pre-release photos there isn't a massive difference in the appearance externally, in fact the new car looks a little less interesting I reckon, but it's all personal.
Wonder if BMW will start referring to my 06 as being the 'Classic' soon? elmo May 12th, 2006, 08:43 AM V.W. did a refresh on the "new beetle" in 2006
The prices are 1000 EUR cheaper.
Car prices have gone very high.
They will begin to fall in 2007. GR33NIE May 12th, 2006, 01:28 PM Im in the same boat here..........Ive currently got approx £3k equity in my car which isnt gunna be there forever :(
Every month im tempted to sell......Llooking at other cars could be paying less out a month and have £2k in the bank, which is dead handy considering id like to move out in a couple of years
Oh i dunno!!!!!!!! :p Jah mini May 12th, 2006, 01:34 PM If you sell now, what are you going to drive around in whilst your waiting for your new mini? GR33NIE May 12th, 2006, 02:59 PM If you sell now, what are you going to drive around in whilst your waiting for your new mini?
Im not sure id buy another MINI, im just thinking finacially what would be best;) British SD May 12th, 2006, 03:24 PM NEW ZED's above post sums it up well for me. yes, it does for any vehicle that is redesigned but the MINI should continue to have one of the highest resale values so it will be marginal especially since the design changes are in no way radically different.
That said there are many people like me that just will not buy a first year run car (note to all with 2001-2003 with rattles and transmission problems) and prefer to wait to see the bugs fixed. For that, I intend to sell my 04 Cooper and buy a lightly used 2005-6 MCS sometime after the new models come out. I prefer SC to turbo anyways and the old engine blocks can take more mods. DeK May 14th, 2006, 07:05 AM i think also the used MCS 2006 is a good choice. I change a MINI this year, and i don't wait the new model S. I want to also see the opinions and reactions of testers on new the engine and their approvals, the remainder of the MINIS I do not worry too much.
I hope that the S will tease the 200 HP, because 170 whereas all the concurantes are already beyond, it is odd…
what disturbs to me also, is that it is partnership with Peugeot, however I am in France, but that done not all… Peugeot (PSA) are good in the diesel, the remainder… maxdude May 15th, 2006, 09:53 AM My ONE is now 3 years old and I am ready to change. With the new variant out sometime in the very near future I would rather hang on for one of them than the buy an existing MCS now. I am just concerned if I hang on till the 2007 appears I may get a bum deal!! In the interim period, which would be hard, I could struggle to manage with just the wife's motor. Thanks for your opinions. Tyrannosaurs May 15th, 2006, 01:43 PM the mini salesmans line is yes it will fall but it won't be as bad as with many other cars. the likes of ford tend to have stock piles of older cars in the lot and, when the new model arrives these all get dumped on the market causing the whole market to crash.
as BMW don't have any stock piles of the mini (most are all but built to order) this won't happen with the mini. add to this the currently high residuals, the likely waiting list for new models, and the fact that the different models won't all appear on day one (the cooper i believe is first out, the convertible last), and the price should slide over then next 12 - 18 months rather than plummet.
as things stand they're still not discounting new minis in any significant way so the market (possibly the most important indicator) still likes the existing model enough to pay full whack for it.
plus someone looking at a three year old mini isn't looking in the same price bracket as a new new mini so the impact will again be lessened. it's fine for them to like the new model but they can't afford one and there are no second hand versions of it...
people like me who have just coughed for a new one are more likely to be impacted... but i don't care. i love it, i intend to hang on to it for long enough that the impact will be very limited and i couldn't wait (genuine, practical reasons couldn't wait) for the new one to come out. Hat May 15th, 2006, 01:54 PM i don't think i'd want the first cars off the line anyway. my car will be 2 years old when the new one is released but i think i'll hang on at least 6 months into the new model life before swapping - let the early adopters take all the pain with the likely snags & problems with the new model. cct1 May 15th, 2006, 02:31 PM Yeah, I agree with all of the above (with the exception of the statement about engine modification--the new engine block with the turbo will actually be more open to mods than the current supercharged engine); resale is going to take a hit, but it probably won't be huge.
I would wait until at least 2008 to trade in though--this is a brand new car from the ground up, and it's going to take awhile until all the bugs are found, let alone fixed, if you're going to stay with a Mini. If, however, you're going to switch to another car, I'd seriously consider selling now--there is a relative shortage of Mini's in production with the factory switching over; now is probably the most favorable time to sell.
In my case, I'm going to drive the new turbo when it comes out--early 2007 over here--and then decide wether to mod the heck out of my MCS and keep it forever, or get the new turbo. I love the supercharger, and I'll probably just keep what I have. Bilbo Baggins May 15th, 2006, 02:32 PM I think there will always be some that must have the latest model cars. Just as there are others that never want the first year of a new model with all of the associated teething problems. So I think the value might fall some, but not too much.
Here on the other side of the pond they are a bit different than over there.
I just traded in my 02 MCS on an 06 MCS so that I could get the newly offered LSD. I was thinking of getting an 05 but then did not like what I was seeing of the 07s so I decided to wait until I could get an 06 and then I would not have to worry about an 07 or 08 and I could have some time to see what they did to the looks, size, and engine before I had to make another decision. I am very happy with the supercharger and regret that they have changed to a turbocharger so I am in no rush to change again.
Maybe if they offer all wheel drive ..................hmmmmmmmm | |
