: Basic maintenance: when to replace shocks?

Hello all!
I have a 2002 MINI Cooper S approaching 50,000 miles.
When I go over a bump, the car bounces. When I go around a corner, the car dips.
I feel like I own an Oldsmobile again. :D

I just wanted to find out when others have replaced their suspension system, if at all.
Is 50,000 miles a reasonable time to have to do this?
Does this sound like normal wear and tear?

Thanks!

Haven't done mine yet at ~37K but it's coming soon.

Going with JCW springs and Koni FSDs.

Yes, I'd say your experience is pretty normal.

shocks wear about 7-10% per year, its very hard to get exact figures from manufacturers ,but it is a good guideline, its difficult to detect worn shocks on your own car as you get used to driving it all the time as the shocks weaken and it only becomes apparent when you try another newer car. coilover/aftermarket systems last a lot lot longer,in some cases Bilstein for example are lifetime warranty ,which although initially may be more expensive may be cheaper in the long run

If your shocks are worn out, replacing the springs isn't going to help. :D

LOL, I know, I know... but the struts are SO expensive, I need to live in the world of make believe for now. :D
