Im always thinking about upgrading to a S.
Im looking at this MINI, its at Parramatta at a Renault dealer, they are asking $37,990.
Ive got a idea, im thinking if i trade my 04 Cooper with 16,000ks with $10k change over do you think they would take this offer, could it be possible, i know the only way to get a REAL answer is go down & ask them myself its just im curious what you guys think & am i wasting my time ?
Cheers
Daniel n00b Jul 15th, 2006, 03:09 AM Yeah go and try, I wouldn't keep my hopes up but you're not off the mark by much...like couple of k's. Maybe they will budge :) St00ge Jul 15th, 2006, 03:12 AM i budged a renault dealer by 2k while looking at a megane 225 with a trade in. try it:D play fife Jul 15th, 2006, 03:16 AM Silly me put the 3rd year warrenty on my Cooper April this year, what a waste if i did buy this S.
Maybe ill look seriously next April at a S.

Daniel Dan, I take it MINI would not transfer the 3rd year warranty? I'd give it a go and ask them. AndrewH Jul 15th, 2006, 05:14 AM Silly me put the 3rd year warrenty on my Cooper April this year, what a waste if i did buy this S.

Daniel The extra warranty is not necessarily a waste ;) Tell them about it, they might be prepared to go up to the next $500 increment on the trade in. It's definitely a positive selling point ;)
I would have thought you could do better than $10,000 if you sold your car privately. 10K sounds quite low to me :( FL00DY Jul 15th, 2006, 05:32 AM The extra warranty is not necessarily a waste ;) Tell them about it, they might be prepared to go up to the next $500 increment on the trade in. Maybe I am just picky:biggrin:
Nothing ventured, nothing gained - why not just go and see whether they will? Worst case scenario is you walk away with a fair idea of what your current car is worth as a trade in. Besides, you can always use the old "well, another dealer has offered me $xxxx, so I need to think about it" - if they try and pressure you at all.
Go for it Daniel - you will never regret upgrading to an S  The Artist Jul 15th, 2006, 06:06 AM Probably close to $15 change over.
You have to remember that they have to turn around and re-sell your car and still make money on it.;) n00b Jul 15th, 2006, 06:44 AM Then comes next year...you might probably be saying "the new shape is growing on me...maybe I'll wait till they drop a bit in price". play fife Jul 15th, 2006, 06:47 AM Might go tomorrow & see what i can do.

Ill go see tomorrow & if i can get a good deal, ill sign the dotted line & be a S owner. :D
Daniel 21Blue Jul 15th, 2006, 07:33 AM Hmm.....i reckon you can get the dealer to drop the price of that MCS a little more. I know of an 05 MCS Chilli, 9k kms that sold late last year for $39ish. That was a great buy for whoever picked it up. St00ge Jul 15th, 2006, 07:50 AM Ill go see tomorrow & if i can get a good deal, ill sign the dotted line & be a S owner. :D

If im lucky i might get $25000 making it a $12k change over.
But ill go em $10k change over & see what they say, i may aswell. :p
I could wait till next April & then start looking for a late 04 early 05 S model & i should still be able to ask for around a $12k change over.
Daniel minigolf Jul 15th, 2006, 08:58 AM Good luck Daniel, but just make sure you're sitting down when they give you the trade in price … just in case. ;)

At the same time your existing car may have depreciated by that extra $2k cash you've saved. Depressing isn't it? :(
Anyone wanna start a tipping comp? I am tipping his car will be worth $24k max. play fife Jul 15th, 2006, 09:03 AM Depressing isn't it? :(

I hope you don't, but sadly, cars take massive hits at trade ins. Partly because the market demands it, and partly because it's used as a selling tool by dealers wanting to get you into the car you're looking at trading for.
When buying my MINI I sold my old GTI for $5500 over the trade in valuation and still managed to get a touch over $2500 off the purchase price. My theory is any amount a dealer is willing to add to their initial trade in offer, they will be willing to subtract on straight up sale.
:indi: 2bob Jul 15th, 2006, 09:25 AM Go for it !!!!! You wont know until you see them. OZChris Jul 15th, 2006, 09:34 AM Hey Daniel go for it :) Todd! Jul 15th, 2006, 09:42 AM Forget about it... get a Turbo kit from Alta or one of the companies Evan is talking to right now and fit it to your Cooper. Have more power than the S with a stack of cash left in you back pocket for coilovers, brakes, etc. Be really unique!
A car like that could have been owned by anybody - it could have been a demo, how are you to know? I might have driven it!?! St00ge Jul 15th, 2006, 09:48 AM Surely the standard cooper engine won't come close to handling a turbo. You'd have to have forged everything.....
