: Where are MINI stored in the UK and how long to get to dealers deanquartermaine Sep 20th, 2006, 04:14 PM Hi All,
I was due to pick up my new Park Lane on Saturday, called dealer today and they say that the car is still at MINI storage (where is that) and they are doing there best to get it delivery and throgh PDI by Saturday.
Should I expect a delay or should the car be with the dealer and through PDI by mid-day Saturday.
Any thoughts?
Dean Scrogg Sep 20th, 2006, 04:40 PM It all depends on what type of order the car originally was.
Basically, when a car is ordered from the factory it is either specifically for a customer, in which case it will go straight to the dealer from Oxford; or a stock vehicle. If it is ordered as a 'Deliver Stock' vehicle it will go straight to the dealer like a sold order. If it is a 'Non-Deliver Stock' vehicle it will go from Oxford to the Thorne Distribution Centre near Doncaster until called for by the dealer (this sounds like the most logical scenario for your car) and is delivered a few days later.
Unfortunately, this week, BMW have been giving priority to getting the new 3 Series Coupe to dealers for tomorrow night's launch preview, so other cars have been delayed.
Obviously, I cannot comment on whether your dealer will get the car in time for you to pick it up at the weekend, nor can anyone else on this site, so all I can suggest is that you ask them. Sorry! :( Jordan210 Sep 20th, 2006, 04:46 PM The 3 series shouldl not effect them as there all ready at the dealers. they have been there a few days now. Nice cars in the flesh ;)
You car might have been help up in the factory or some thing. Dont worry tho you will get it soon :) Scrogg Sep 20th, 2006, 08:39 PM By the looks of your post announcing you'd 'done the deal' on your new Park Lane you only ordered it last weekend?
I'm surprised that your dealer was brave enough to say a car that was still at Thorne would be ready 5 days later - not something most of us would do. But hey, there are still some that will say whatever they think you want them to say in order to secure an order! :(

I also cannot see any benefit of them telling you your car is at the VDC if it is still at the factory, so I doubt this very much! deanquartermaine Sep 20th, 2006, 08:48 PM I actually ordered the car on 8th Sept. Scrogg Sep 20th, 2006, 08:57 PM I actually ordered the car on 8th Sept.
Beats me then!
If it was at Thorne when you ordered it they should've had it by last weekend, let alone this! :( Rakey Sep 20th, 2006, 11:03 PM special additions like PL or CM are like an off the shelf product, so there should be no reason for any delays, unless of course the dealer is struggling to keep up on the prep work or if they have found something that needs to be repaired before hand over;) Scrogg Sep 21st, 2006, 08:04 AM ...unless of course the dealer is struggling to keep up on the prep work or if they have found something that needs to be repaired before hand over;)
Which is exactly what I didn't want to say. Didn't want to worry the lad! :( deanquartermaine Sep 21st, 2006, 08:49 AM Well I'm told by the dealer that the car is at Thorne, and that they are going to try and get it delivered to them today/tomorrow then get the PDI done so I can pick up sometime on Saturday. deanquartermaine Sep 22nd, 2006, 10:38 AM Look's like the car is now "on the move" - words of my dealer.
And expected that I won't be able to pick it up until Tuesday or next week. Gutted really wanted the car tomorrow.
Dean Scrogg Sep 22nd, 2006, 10:51 AM You're not alone mate, I've got two that should have been with me by Tuesday or Wednesday of this week that won't be here until late this afternoon. :(
But at least every dealer got a bunch of 3 Series Coupes to show off last night! deanquartermaine Sep 22nd, 2006, 04:15 PM Yeah, what I'm failing to understand is why a company as big as BMW takes so long to move a car 180 miles from Thorne to my dealer.
Would have been quicker for me to pick it up on a truck, take it to dealer for PDI etc.
And I don't want a 3 Series Coupe, I want my MINI now ;) Scrogg Sep 22nd, 2006, 05:19 PM You're certainly not the first to make that point, and I'm sure you won't be the last.
Unfortunately, though, the bigger picture is not how difficult it is to move your car a relatively short distance, but how difficult it is to move every BMW and MINI wanted by every dealer in the country! They can't keep everyone happy! :(
The other question I would be asking is, how long after I placed my order did my dealer actually call down the car? Just because you 'signed on the dotted line' on the 8th does not mean they did anything with it straight away! :(
Rakey's point about the car being delayed at the dealership and them using Thorne as an excuse is also quite valid. How do you know the car hasn't already been delivered, but is damaged or defective in some way and they are stalling?
As I posted previously, I am not trying to upset you in any way, merely pointing out that there are a number of factors that could influence the delay. | |
