I think that is the glovebox handle:D

That would make sense as theres no handle on the pics of the glovebox bit prominent though.

The Black Cooper looks stunning  My only worry would be how dirty a cream interior would get.

Not a big fan of the new aero kit, don't like the back bumper. I think the JCW seats look awesome though  As do the new wheels

That's it, I've made my mind up... pacific blue half-leather not at all what I expected, not really half leather is it? and what about that splodge on the back seat, they could have evened it up a little by perhaps doing the armrests or something. Now going to change my spec tomorrow to carbon black punch, though do prefer a half-leather combo

Thanks Paul, great coverage and pics

Good news is I'm back, bad news is they're keeping the yellow car under wraps, until tomorrow! :(

Ah well. Anyway, with any luck the rest of the images will be added to the third link I posted, the video will be edited up and uploaded tomorrow with my own report(s) from the show in addition to the standard press release.

I asked a lot of the questions here, but didn't get a lot of answers as you might expect, with many of them being on future models. I did manange to find out the third button is still 100% a "mystery button" and will be revealed later next year! Frustrating.

Think I've decided for my JCW: Astro Black, Aero Kit, JCW Seats, Black R105's.

Don't worry. As the Aero Kit is now on MINI.com along with all the other JCW accessories for R56 so it's not a surprise anymore.

The best I got was "I can't tell you, but I think you will like it", with the emphasis on "you". Mmmmm. Oil slick, ejector seat, anything like that would be cool. ;)

With a little luck I'll get some video online before I hit the sack. Serious shakey cam, but it's the thought that counts, right? ;)

OK, some colour changing lights. You can "flick" (first change) or press and hold to "flow" through the colours.

Due to the conditions the headliner/waterfall lights are the only ones we could capture on camera.

Great photo coverage...
I like the exterior changes, I even like the new speedo with radio display in it, but I think it's a bit too big. Either that or the dash top drapes around it a bit too much and makes it look bigger. Maybe it will look beter for real than in photos - I know I didn't like the GP wheels until I saw them for real.
What I don't think will look any better for real is that center stack. Is that it..? The real product? Are we sure there's not still a disguise panel on there..??? What's with the flat (in shape and finish) black panel with big gaps around the buttons? Did the styling department run out of time? That really looks cheap and nasty to me. What was the point in moving all the controls around if all they were going to do was fill the space with flat black plastic?
Issues of taste aside, it seems like the new center stack could be a lot worse from a user interface / ergonomic point of view. There are now buttons and controls everywhere... It's going to take a lot for that to grow on me.
Any word if there will be a facelift for the '08 Clubman..? :(

how does the quality of the fit & finish & the materials feel compared to the pre-prod models you've seen?

Paul
Sep 29th, 2006, 07:45 AM
Much better, the centre panel doesn't look cheap when you see it "in person", I guess the close ups make the gaps look big around the buttons when they're not really.

That said, I do think they could have been more inventive with that piece. With the Navigation there's more going on there though, so you see less of the back panel. (No cars with satnav were there).

Great stuff Paul, you've done us proud!

The mystery button is intruiging, what is happening next year then i wonder? Ice cold I/C water spray for the JCW? May be traveller related... who knows!

Shame about the yellow S, sure we'll see some press shots floating through soon enough.

yeah thats one bit of the interior that really bothers me - looks like they just ran out of ideas & stuck a blanking panel on. the current car looks like individual slot in modules & looks much more finished in this area. its a small niggle though as the rest of the interior looks very classy & much more grown up

...No cars with satnav were there...

Can you find out from one of the reps there, if when ordering the satnav do you get TWO seperate (smaller) displays over the Stering Wheel like you do now? Or is it just going to be the one, e.g. Rev Counter...?

Thanks,
StevieB

As per the official photos in the news and gallery, it's just one now. No more "Mikey Mouse ears" as they called it.

Great work Paul. Very much appreciated. The Chilli Red Cooper is very close to the spec I have ordered so to see one is re-assuring I've spent the money wisely!!!!!! II like the half???(could have been more) leather upholstery as part of the chilli pack. Think the money I will be spending on the ventureshield protection for the front end is money better spent (for me). Would have preferred a leather headrest to be honest as per some photos but I am more than happy with the choices on offer/made. I think the red is very much a 'true' mini colour and isn't prone to fashion fads! Its a look after it carefully and it will stand the test of time sort of colour IMO. Particularly with the chrome - retro looking?

On the cream leather - very nice in a showroom - not at all practical in the real World unless its a little used car and you never get wet or dirty. No disrespect to those who like it but I simply couldn't live with it.
