Hey Guys,
Just curious to see if anyone owns a r/c mini/ or any r/c cars? Saw a couple of vids on youtube with the drifters and stuff, looked fully mad!!! Does anyone know if there's any rc drifting shows in Sydney?.. think Auto Salon has just plain rc races, but no drifting???

Would love a miniature rc model of my car to go with my non-moving mini model I got from the dealer :D Wonder if anyone knows where there are stockers in Sydney??

I have a Tamiya R/C with an old mini body I painted in BRG/W with black guards. I had some photos of it and ppl thought it was real :D:D
Ebay have heaps, but in Sydney, HobbyCo are the go ;)

Amongst all of my models, I have a few RC models, but none wold be good for drifiting.. I imagine you would need one of the more serious type RC cars.......

Yeah, still kicking me that I didn't get a gas powered 1/8th Merc CLK GTR (nitro) when I had the chance.

Oh well, at least an electric one makes it sound like it has the genuine BMW power steering! :P

Got one of those too Dave, with the extra sports motor, they do a brilliant J-turn.
Have to say the body is looking the worse for wear, running them on gravel and sand is fun but does a fair bit of damage, tyres were bald within a week. :D

I have 2. The first is a little electric one that mates from work bought me to tide me over when I waited for the real thing to arrive.

The second is a 1/10th nitro BV that I bought to tide me over till the real one came :) I also started moding this one by putting a 2 speed gearbox on, but then the real one arrived and it has been slightly neglected since.

I have to recharge the batteries and get it back out there. I might post some pics later.

Thanks for the sites!!!

do you think a noob like me should start out with the electric ones first, or you reckon learning to control electric/nitro r similar so doesnt matter???

The nitro's are a hellova lot quicker, but you learn to drive/replace parts a lot quicker:D:D

Here is the only pic I have at the moment. It does not have the shell on it, which is starting to look a bit tatty after rolling it and hitting a few poles, good job I bought another.

I took this pic just after I fitted the 2 speed gearbox. It is located between the air filter and the right rear wheel in the pic.

thanks Zapo! still looks nice! the gears are very clever! how does the remote control work then once you've put the gears in? Is there like an extra switch/button you slot in? (forgive me if that's a dumb question :frown: im still yet to look at a rc car in real life)

*shrieks* that looks sooo cute!! a mini little air filter! hahaha (sorry having a girlie moment )

any one have more photos? love to have a look!

Hi Minkymoo.

The two speed works like an auto, it just changes as the speed increases, so yopu don't need to select the gears on the remote. Its a clever bit of engineering that involves two centrifical clutches and a one way bearing. If you need more detail I can explain further.

That car with its shell on would do about 80km/h, fast enough to have a serious off if your not careful.

Had a Tamiya 1/10th Ferrari F40 (electric) about 15 years ago. Had a hot motor and electronic speed controller etc (just when the speed controllers were becoming available).

Got hold of a small crown wheel not designed for it, and a big pinion (ran out of adjustment to keep the pinoin in contact). Was geared to do about 70km/h.

Rolled it many times. And did a Mark Webber (Merc Benz LeMans car) trick a couple of times too, thanks to clipping a rock and the flat bottom doing the rest.

I have a remote control car, it is a quarter scale classic mini with a 25cc two stroke engine.
With the weight of the car and the power you can do serious drifting. I have two body shells one for show(a replica of my car) and one for fun.

Horizon Hobby: 1/14 RTR Mini Cooper JCW Edition: Carisma R/C Cars (CIS96868) (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=CIS96868)

Link to Horizon Hobbies, currently out of stock, has been for several weeks. Seem to get them in batches.

They are the main distributor for them so if they havent got them, other places dont.

I was lucky I got mine when I did. Went out of stock the following week. Send them an email.

It comes with a 110volt mains charger which is useless in UK, heard someone else bought a UK carisma rc car off ebay for the charger. I just cut the connectors off, and put some of my own on then used my adjustable race charger to charger the battery pack.

Cant no, I already owe him for mine as he cant work paypal. So working out how to pay him currently.

Sorry, if I work that out i'll ask him. Problem is he's a very laidback guy and he ordered it and didnt send it to me for 2 months.
