Is it finance, i.e. higher purchase?

If that is the case, tey own the car, do they not?

I would phone their customer care people and see what they say and how they are going to support you.

Wollaston have called again to say that they're still waiting on BMW/MINI.

Emails going off today....

I hear the sounds of feet being dragged at BMW Bracknell.

Thi sounds like a case for issuing a "Claim Form" which used to be called a writ!.

I assume that you have Legal Cover on your insurance so why not give them a call. From what I hear they love to contest things like this as they can bill for costs and "heel-dragging" just increases the claim. After all, you are out of pocket due to being supplied faulty goods!

Worth a phone call at least!

Good luck

Sent a couple of emails off to MINI HQ to see if they can nudge/kick/wake up whoever it is Wollaston are apparently waiting for to sign off the refund.

This gets more farcical by the minute. Apparently MINI HQ are waiting for Wollaston......

So it sees they're waiting for each other while muggins here sits and twiddles his thumb waiting for both.

So glad the walls to my cell are padded, because I'm bouncing off them now!

Apparently Wollaston missed out vital information required for the HQ to process the rejection/refund.

FFS.

Wollaston have called, polite as ever (that's not being sarcastic by the way!), and apparently the cheque is in the post along will all paperwork etc. :)

Looks like the end is nigh.....

Hi Paul

You may have already mentioned, but are you planning to replace your R56 with another one after this carry on?

No.

Fantastic resolution. A happy ending to a fairly sad story and short R56 ownership. I hope that you will revisit MINI in the future.

Anything that tickles your fancy out there?

No.

Does this mean you are also leaving MINI2 for others to run? Or are you sticking around?

Paul

lol. No change here, still have a 2002 S to drive when the urge strikes, and I was not an MINI owner when I started this little site. ;)

It just seems the new MINI is not the car for me, and the lack of reassurances from MINI HQ pretty much sealed the decision to take a break in terms of the new car.

I still really, really like the new model, but the problems (and repeat problems) I've had mean it's not worth the risk of reordering.

Not really! :D

In terms of new cars around the same price, nothing much appeals. I MAY end up with an old banger and money in the bank, just for a while, as we've also got a housebuld project on the cars (hopefully).

Glad it's been EVENTUALLY  sorted Paul. Anyways I think you were being too greedy having 2 MINI's :p ;)

After reading Autoexpress today, I'm not sure I will ever buy a new car again, the amount a new car loses as soon as you drive off the forecourt is eye watering, at least the MINI is one of the better makes for this, but when I see the rows upon rows of second hand MINI's on my local dealers forecourt the bubble will burst eventually.

I have no faith that the new MINI, by design, will or can stay in one piece around the roads here. Two Cooper S says it cant. I'll be glad to try another later, maybe a few, and see how they cope, hopefully they'll remain in one piece!

As it stands I plan to put disclaimers/warnings on the Darkness Run this year, as the roads I've used in the past for it include some that have apparently proven too much for the 2nd Gen MINI!

That's really unfortunate. You must be the one guy that Mini should have got everything right for.

Having said that, mine arrived with some defective paintwork but the dealer spotted it before I took delivery. Its been sorted and Mini have made a contibution to my ipod connector by way of apology. So I am happy and after 1500 miles have no other problems.

Sounds like they have been having a few teething problems with early production.

Martin can I enquire as to whether that was Chandlers??? :) Just wondering as they supplied mine and were great.

Maybe you should invite MINI UK to test some of their cars with you on those roads.
If they are not up to the challenge then maybe they don't have faith in their cars either.

It was one of their test cars that first broke. ;) I should have some more in the not too distant future, hopefully the reports back will be positive!

It was Vines at Redhill.

I have had bad reports of Vines in Crawley but my daughter bought an MCC from Vines at Redhill and they looked after her very well so, although a bit further away, I went there and was very impressed. I have bought quite a lot of new cars over the years including a number of new Porsches and Ivan at Vines is amongst the best I have met.

I think others have also posted good reports

I did try it, ordered it and cancelled it :)

But I did not cancell because of faults as I had not heard about any until yesterday, I am sticking with what I have until the traveller comes out ;)

My concern is the estate will have much the same issues with regards the wheels (tyres) hitting the arches, and will have a whole new set of "first off the line" problems.

So Paul........

Can I get your educated opnion? Lets say that you have £20K to spend - you have to buy a MCS. A search on MINI UK leads you to many many options but the big decision will be between a 2006 R53 and a 2006/7 R56. Both are approximately the same price (just checked the website now!). REMEMBER - you HAVE to buy a MCS.

The bright lights/big city appeal of a spanking new car aside, PLUS the fact that the older models MIGHT have a future depreciation issue - what would you choose.

To the non-initiate it seems that there can't possibly be a fix for the wheel issue (save increasing the ride height). You've driven so many, and very hard (I've seen the pictures of the hump-back bridge) and I consider your opinion to be well earned!

Where is your money going, Paul?

(Might need a new thread, actually!)

I'd buy the old one, as I've never had it break itself / fall apart on my country runs, which I do every day to some extent.

For all the great looks, the toys, everything else, the thing I REALLY love about MINIs is DRIVING them, if I cant drive a MINI the free and fanciful way I love, then there's no point driving one.

The wheel arch issue is the main concern really, and without re-jigging I cant see how they'd fix that.

I've also heard (within the past week or so), they're still having a hard time lining up components/jiggling things together at the factory. Of course you can only take this as heresay, but I have no reason to doubt the source that told me that, and it also didn't re-assure me about the current situation!

Well - as I thought!

Problem is, I'm a real sucker for that new car look/smell. Pathetic, I know. I'm going to get my hands on a R53 and satisfy my needs for a few years.

Thanks for the reply - what month on 2004 were the R53 builds - any idea?
