:(
Paul, What exactly has gone wrong with your MINI, last time i checked this thread wasw about 3 weeks ago and you didnt have it then. How many driving weeks have you had?, you should try and get them to replace it or something.
Im starting to get worried now, mine is due in march but ive read faulty cars are still being driven off the production line.:puzzled:. There is a hell of a lot of complaints in here... Paul Feb 14th, 2007, 03:10 PM Owned the now for 77 days (well, 76 and a bit). Been without it for about 1/3rd that time (23 days and counting).
Still has a creaking/coiled spring noise when you turn the wheel.
The boot now looks all lopsided and just plain weird (apparently they had to get it like this to stop the leaks).
The bonnet is wonky fitting.
Making it worse now also is the boot was dented twice and has a scratch. The interior was dirty and had a mark/dent in the door trim too. :(
Plus, when we started it up it sounded like a big back of nails, which slowly calmed down, but it still has a loud tick the engineer couldn't identify. DaiB Feb 14th, 2007, 03:20 PM Went in today to collect my S.

That really is unacceptable. Olly. Feb 14th, 2007, 03:22 PM Is rejecting the car an option Paul? You have certainly given them ample time to fix the faults? Paul Feb 14th, 2007, 03:26 PM I'm starting discussions. This could seriously spoil the "Long Term Cooper S" reports! CC07ERS Feb 14th, 2007, 03:36 PM they should be kissing your ass big time as you can slate them to the biggest mini owners club on the net phone your frieds in high places paul pull some strings Olly. They certainly would be brief :(
At least if you reject it and get a new one you might actually be able to drive it instead of it being sat in the garage :D Paul Feb 14th, 2007, 03:44 PM To be honest, at this very moment, I wouldn't be inclined to get another. Paul what are you waiting for? Why not just reject this example and give MINI one more chance with a replacement car  I feel wound for you and hope my MCS delivered to my dealer today for March 1st isn't another dog with fleas
Good luck and keep the faith ;) J1JPE Feb 17th, 2007, 12:46 AM telling comments Paul, maybe IF we ALL STOP BUYING MINI will take notice ...
see you all in the Toyota forum ... also made in UK;
now how do we make 'em cool ? oh yeh, new Supra Paul Feb 17th, 2007, 07:21 AM When I look around at the alternatives my heart sinks to be honest, but if I rejected this and got another duff one I'd be gutted and feel very, very stupid.
1st Cooper (2002), transmission problems (+minor niggles) - bought back from the dealer (no blame that way).
1st S (2003) steering fault that couldn't be fixed (+ minor niggles) - rejected and replaced
2nd S (2003) only a few minor niggles
3rd S (2005 (06 model)) - nasty noisy LSD, easily fixed, few minor niggles
4th S (2006, 07 model), lots of little problems, and a big one that cant be fixed....
Should I have quit whilst ahead?!
Minor niggles usually means rattles and trim issues, all our MINIs (apart from the latest, which in that regard is much better) have had rattles. s_and_m Feb 17th, 2007, 07:41 AM Paul sorry to hear that this still has not been sorted for you. TBH it seems the more they try, the worse they will make the car. Is it time to walk away and ask for final replacement?
Looking for a positive here - at least it seems that MINI don't specially treat or dress cars that are going to 'press' homes. Seems they feel they can expose hacks to the same sort of build quality and dealer interface as the cash punting public. That's either a ringing testimonial to their perception of the customer service and product quality or it is proof that they just don't care.
Not sure which I'd go at the moment, but I hope MINI move to resolve the potential PR damage and of course, sort you out with a new shiny motor:p

I said to my husband yesterday, I just feel so disappointed. I sold my peugeot 307cc (nothing wrong with it) for the Mini, and now I am going through the same process again looking at other cars. I know this is a Mini forum but any suggestions on what to look for. There must be something out there that will catch my eye. We are going to look at the Honda Civic - R today. I am getting so sick of cars at the moment the 196 bus looks very appealing!! :rofl3df: supa-dupa-cooper Feb 17th, 2007, 09:50 AM :(
I dont know what i'd do if i were in your position?!
My current MINI (i know its not an R56) is my first new MINI and ive never *touches wood quickly* had any problems with it, 11 months old this weekend, it doesnt even rattle and squeak!
Even my old 02 ONE was fine, with no real problems (only a noisy belt which was tightened, the ABS wiring recall, and the seatbelt tensioner replaced)
Surely there are many people out there (some of them on here) that are perfectly happy with their new R56s, having had no problems?
Surely to get a 'duff' one with so many problems (big or small), twice in a row is unlikely?
Maybe a replacement is the way to go, i guess MINI are working all the time to try and resolve the problems and find a fix. So therefore maybe by the time the replacement arrives, it would have been subject to these resolves?
If the replacement is a 'duff' one too, i wouldnt feel stupid, not your fault, at least youve given them a 2nd chance.
If you dont take a replacement, you could be walking away from a new car that will be perfectly ok.....
Dont know, difficult situation!
Which ever way you decide to go, I hope it works out for the best :) Camp-Freddy Feb 17th, 2007, 10:05 AM When I look around at the alternatives my heart sinks to be honest, but if I rejected this and got another duff one I'd be gutted and feel very, very stupid.

You must have the patience of a saint Paul to put up with all those problems and still keep the faith! ScottyB Feb 17th, 2007, 10:13 AM :(
Hope its all satisfactorily sorted for you Paul! Paul Feb 17th, 2007, 11:51 AM On that list I ignored Abis MINI One, which had a water leak at the boot (similar to the latest S), a-pillar trim that fell off while driving, front windscreen sealant that fell out, windows that dropped (or not) at random times, lots of rattles.. I can't actually remember the rest of the problems, but as it was her companie's car it wasn't so annoying. If we'd have owned it it would have been LONG gone. Paul, how about a nice little Suzuki Swift Sport :) thats if you like old school hot hatch traits :p seriously you could do alot worse, they are great to drive and as much fun as a MINI.
Like has been discused many times here, all manufacturers have problems with their cars, I was at one point thinking of swapping the S for the new Volvo C30 until I read what dire problems Volvo have had with the S40 and their equal poor aftersales, so it's not just MINI. My Swift has had a few niggles as it was a new model, grinding brakes due naff pads but all sorted now.
Paul, you say the supplying dealer are good so you really should be rejecting the car now, the longer you leave it the worse it will be and your case for rejection will be weakened, personally I would have rejected it with the boot prolbems and letting in water, to me it sounds like a serious problem if as you say to make the car water tight the boot is now cockeyed. No matter how hard the dealer is tryind rectify the problems your experiencing your MINI may never be perfect if it's a bad car from the start.
Best of luck :) | |
