: MINIsOnTop June 16th, 2007 Paul_TMQ Feb 15th, 2007, 12:08 AM Well, it paid to spend 6 hours on Tuesday, February 6th, clearing out the 3 to 4 feet of snow from our driveway, we are registered for MOT2007. Oh, that snow fell in just about 10 hours.
The total for the 7-day Lake Effect snow storm was 96 inches. Yes, 8 feet fell during this "Winter in a Week". Great to live just 'downwind' of Lake Ontario.
With all that snow, strong winds and sub-zero wind chills, it felt like being top of Mt. Washington on a good day in February. BTW, today's snow fall pushed us up over 102 inches. yellowmininy Feb 15th, 2007, 12:14 AM I think that is a special effort to get out of the driveway to the post office. :D We only had the cold to deal with over here! Thanks for sharing the pictures! GBMINI Feb 15th, 2007, 12:14 AM With your registration and a few other folks - we passed 50 MINIs registered today! Just a couple hundred still to go ;)
Lasagna is much more popular this year than last ... is everyone going vegetarian? jwardell Feb 15th, 2007, 12:52 PM PalTMQ, great pictures...do you have any more posted somewhere online of all the snow?
Ian...last year I stayed away from the lasagna because anything with Vegetarian in it scares me. Then I realized it is just normal lasagna (not lasagna with meat sauce) and wish I got it. So I've ignored that V word this year. :) blalor Feb 15th, 2007, 10:37 PM Yeah, vegetarians don't taste very good. *ick* Paul_TMQ Feb 16th, 2007, 02:53 AM For those that would like to get a feel for how much snow piled up in last week's lake effect snow storm, "Winter in a Week", here is a local news site with losts of pictures all around the county:
Sorry, apparently I do not have enough posts to be permited to "...post URLs to other sites...".
I had better get posting. Try again later. Paul_TMQ Feb 16th, 2007, 03:02 AM BTW - We are now getting hit with another lake effect snow storm. Driveway is filled in with another 3 to 4 feet of "wind packed" snow that you can walk on. And, its going to continue until tomorrow afternoon.
"Fire up the tractor... (so the MINI can get out)." :D yellowmininy Feb 16th, 2007, 09:04 AM Best of luck with the shoveling, Paul. :D jwardell Feb 16th, 2007, 12:39 PM Yikes. So how many feet in total over the past 2 weeks?
I realized that the snow is so hard here I can drive on it, and it barely leaves a tire mark. No hope for shoveling that hardened cement, all I can do is hope the next two sunny days melt it. Paul_TMQ Feb 16th, 2007, 08:11 PM The snow that has fallen from these lake effect snow storms is not the light and fluffy powder stuff the skiers like. This stuff is damp with Great Lakes moisture, wind blown, packed in place and frozen so its more like foam insulation.
Today I could walk out to the road on top of the 30 inches that was in my driveway. But, the first thing I bought when we moved here was a 20 HP tractor with 42 inch snowblower attachment. Even with that 'horsepower', it took 3 hours to clear my driveway. GBMINI Feb 18th, 2007, 01:31 AM Look at this:
