: MINIsOnTop June 16th, 2007 m2smith Jul 22nd, 2007, 03:09 AM The final duties of MoT '07 happened on the streets of Boston - or maybe the streets of Peabody, Cambridge and Boston - A check for $14,993 was presented to Ruthie McDonough of Rosie's Place. She toured Ian, Ivan, Richard and myself around their very impressive facilities. This charity was suggested by Barbara Marino and was the top vote getter. Thanks for the suggestion, Barbara - Great choice! It was uplifting to see the level of respect given to the women who need to avail themselves of the services there. The monies raised at MOT were added to by a couple of direct donations to Rosie's of an additional $1500 for a total of nearly $16500! The MOT community knows how to party and make a difference at the same time - very rare - So at this time everyone please stand up and pat your collective selves on the back - You done good :)
Besides our visit to Rosie's we stopped at MoP and MoB to present Paul and Kerry with copies of the Wish Letters that the Make-a-Wish people sent and were displayed in the MOTOR room at MOT. These were the three wishes that were granted because of the generosity of these dealerships and, again, all of you... well maybe not him... but the rest of you. Again stand up and pat yourself on the back (or whatever part deserves patting). We also presented them with copies of the proclamation of MINI Cooper Day by Governor Lynch (a big hit).
Then off to Cambridge for lunch and the beginnings of the secret (shh) planning for next year...
Thanks again everybody - It's an honor to be able to do this with all of you - well not you - but the rest of you- ya you - you're OK! GBMINI Jul 22nd, 2007, 01:57 PM Thanks Michael :)
And for anyone that didn't see / read the Make-A-Wish letters, copies are on the MOT website:

Jeff enjoyed our long trip back to LI and I'll get a chance to take the car to work at some point this week, so I can check out all the cool new options.
Thanks again to everyone who helped organize MoT and Herb Chambers for the wonderful new MINI.
I'll post pics when our "WONATMOT" license plates arrive. Theo Aug 2nd, 2007, 02:52 AM MC2 Images Chosen
I have just seen a proof of the MINIs on Top article from Gary Anderson, MC2's Editor. They have done a fantastic job with the layout and the artwork. I think they have chosen some nifty images, as well.
Curious if your image made it into the final layout? I have edited my MC2 Submissions Album (http://picasaweb.google.com/theo.matthias/SubmittedToMC2?authkey=cVMlcWowufo) to include those photos that have made it to the proof stage. Note that things could change at the last minute, though.
I have also been informed that one of our photographer's submissions has made it to the "Table of Contents" page of the issue as the background image! Mum's the word, though!
Theo jwardell Aug 2nd, 2007, 12:33 PM :( I know they have limited print space, but I wish they included more photos. There were a lot of great photos from everyone this year.
If you folks haven't heard, MC2 is (also) doing a MINI calendar next year, and asking everyone for submissions asap. Theo Aug 2nd, 2007, 01:07 PM :( I know they have limited print space, but I wish they included more photos. There were a lot of great photos from everyone this year...{snip}
+1, Josh. I know it was a tough decision for me to extract 50 of the hundreds that folks submitted. I imagine it was even tougher to whittle it down to 10-15!
And, regarding the calendar: I strongly encourage everyone to submit photos to MC2. Here are the guidelines:
We are going to publish our first Mini/MINI calendar later this year. We will have the order form on the website soon. It will be oversized in our usual quality of paper and print, but we've decided to ask for more photos beyond what we have on file and what has been sent as yet. We need top-quality, in-focus shots, preferably with just the Mini or MINI showing. No people standing beside or waving from their car please. We are looking for artistic and unique shots. We will be offering prizes, including MC2 swag, maybe even some useful stuff from our friends and advertisers. We'll make you and your mini Cooper famous on a global scale!
Send us low-res in JPEG first, and if we like those we will ask for hi-res.
Our intent is also to raise some charity monies for a small, overlooked charity or two, so maybe you have ideas for nominations you could send back to me? The calendar has a retail of $13, and maybe we can raise $2-$3 per calendar?

The first step is admitting you have a problem. Theo Aug 4th, 2007, 05:39 PM Call for Charity Committee Volunteers
Each year at this time, the MINIs On Top Charity Committee begins to discuss charity issues related to the next year's event. These issues include:
- If MOT 2008 will have a charity component
And, if so:
- What are the criteria for the charity nominations?
- How will the charities be nominated?
- How will the charities be chosen?
- What is the schedule for the charity selection?
- What tasks need to be identified for the committee to complete?
- Which members will do what?
Last year the committee was made up of Richard (rfinprc), Lynn, Ivan (snek), Norine, and myself. I expect that some of these folks will want to continue on the committee. I will be focusing on other issues and will need to be (easily) replaced.
Please contact any one of us if you would like to volunteer for the committee.
Thanks,
Theo hwy61 Aug 21st, 2007, 04:27 AM At New Country MINI this afternoon , Theo made a fine presentation to GM Tim Parker & Sales Mgr. Bob Craig in appreciation of New Country's support and participation of MOT '07 . They were appreciative and happy to recieve the very nice framed award and hung it right away.
In the showroom they have a well made slideshow of images from MOT that Scott Nickel put together from his own photos . We were given a copy to pass along to Ian to be posted.
Nice job, Theo !!! And thanks New Country !!

Ivan & I were there for moral support and photo ops . Mike lost track of time and was late but made it to the Arch Street Tavern in time for food & beverages . No, we were all standing on milk crates so we were at least above belt level while talking to him. GBMINI Aug 21st, 2007, 11:57 AM Nicely done, Theo Ivan and Jeff - and thanks for the pics :) Theo Aug 21st, 2007, 01:09 PM It was a very nice get together at New Country...and at the pub afterwards.
Tim Parker, the General Manager, told us that the MINI is the only car he has been able to fit in without moving the seat all the way back. I would guess his height to be at least 6'10"+, so that is saying something quite unique about the MINI's design/engineering!
Tim was also talking about attending MINIs On Top in 2008 with his family...in a Clubman!
Thanks to iVan, Jeff, and Michael for taking the trip out to bestow our gratitude on New Country.
Theo m2smith Aug 21st, 2007, 06:21 PM That means that the car will still fit when the middle age middle begins to appear ;)
That could mean that the MINI is the automotive equal to Farrar slacks...
(I should probably move that last bit to OGMC) | |
