: Do you think BMW would build... the-ruff-puppy Jan 24th, 2007, 11:45 PM ...an R50 MINI One exterior with an R56 interior and engine?
I think that would almost be the perfect combination, the only thing stopping me from R56'ing it is the exterior. I'm just not madly bowled over by it like I was the R50.
Almost three months on and it still hasn't grown on me. cct1 Jan 25th, 2007, 02:03 AM No. Olly. Jan 25th, 2007, 12:29 PM Not a chance :( Restyle Jan 25th, 2007, 02:52 PM No, But I reckon there`s some people in the bmw boardroom who wish they had done so given hindsight.
;) Rakey Jan 25th, 2007, 04:48 PM No, theres no way you'd fit the new engine under the bonnet for a start and why take a step backwards:rolleyes: mister.t Jan 25th, 2007, 06:11 PM R56 all the way!! :D:D:D Restyle Jan 25th, 2007, 06:21 PM ....and why take a step backwards:rolleyes:
As the thread title implies ... Its about taking the best bits from both cars {Hypothetically} ;)
Very subjective & down to personal taste, but I really think they got the body design damn near perfect on the 2001 MINI.
Although I`m not a massive fan of the new engine, I would be prepared to acknowledge its more modern design is acceptable.
As for the interior, the 2001 layout still does it for me, even if you can squeeze an extra 2litres of space into the new one.
Wheels & Tyres .. The R56
Ride Comfort ... The R56, wheras Handling & Driver Thrillability award must go to The Old Model
:nice: KenL Jan 25th, 2007, 08:18 PM I prefer the look of the R56, am I alone? Scrogg Jan 25th, 2007, 08:21 PM I prefer the look of the R56, am I alone?
Definitely not, but as every other thread asking this question has been merged into this one (http://www.mini2.com/forum/2nd-gen-mini-cooper-s/134568-big-new-mini-vs-old-mini-comparison-thread-aka-r56-ugly-my-r56-review.html), it's probably not a great question to be asking! ;) the-ruff-puppy Jan 26th, 2007, 01:27 AM No, theres no way you'd fit the new engine under the bonnet for a start and why take a step backwards:rolleyes:
Well, in terms of design, the r56 is (in my opinion) a step backwards as far as exterior goes. The interior and engine choice, I love. It's just what you see walking towards the car.

Are none of the images of great looking R56s on here non helping with your reluctance to move on ;) Rakey Jan 26th, 2007, 08:45 AM Well, in terms of design, the r56 is (in my opinion) a step backwards as far as exterior goes. Well yes thats in your opinion, but the original question was "Do you think BMW would build an R50 MINI One exterior with an R56 interior and engine?" and my answer to that was would BMW do this, no, due the engine not fitting in there and it been a step backwards.
Amazing how everyone jumped straight on the design of the new MINI is a step backwards part, but in the BMW development and life cycle of the MINI the R50 is a step backwards, fact. cct1 Jan 26th, 2007, 02:35 PM Amazing how everyone jumped straight on the design of the new MINI is a step backwards part, but in the BMW development and life cycle of the MINI the R50 is a step backwards, fact.
This depends on your perspective. For the average driver, thats fact. For those interested in modding, the changes to the new car from the perspective of the engine are a real concern. There are rumors that the current engine is close to maxed out (You addressed this yourself I believe in a JCW thread, I believe there's talk about increasing the engine from 1.6 to 1.8l to get more power out of it--this is a relatively drastic way to increase power, compared to how easy it is to do it on the old engine--I hope the new engine can handle the heat and strain), and there are real concerns about durability of the new engine if heavily modified--ie how much horsepower the new block can actually handle, whereas the old tritec, although less refined, is bulletproof from a mod standpoint. Time will tell... Griffer Jan 27th, 2007, 01:19 PM I prefer the look of the R56, am I alone? No!!!:D g.b.mini.s Feb 7th, 2007, 05:04 PM Well i took the new cooper s out for a test drive and bought a new cooper s as soon as i was back in the showroom loved fell in love with it and after talking to the brother in law who has been tuning imprezas for about ten years rekons we could do heaps to this car as it runs a turbo not a chager but boost guage oil tempp and preassure and most important a knocklink as this is your eyes and ears for the engine if you want to start tinkering with the engine we are aiming to get the BHP up to around 300 with the torque around the same but get some one like gems to do an ecu which can run the car on lower boost and runn cooler when needed as a lot of the jap cars dont run well can have the option nt to run high power all the time.
But the cars loverly endless posibilitys and mines grey with full leather intireior piano black dash black roof chilli pack and jcw side skirts only flame 17" wheels really like the feel of the car. Extra's coming soon.:aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: | |
