hey,

i just test drove a MOD and i quite liked it!

i have a few questions that i hope u guuys dont mind answering!

1. 75bhp seems a bit silly for the car so i was wondering if i remap it without adding induction kit, performance exhaust and all that kinda stuff then whats the max bhp i would get??
2. how much did it cost u to remap?
3. just wanna know the max bhp u can push the MOD to? say 120-130???
4. this is not MOD related but here goes....how comfi the works sport seats are over the cooperS or if anyone has ever had a civic type r then CTRs seats??
5. insurance?? im 20 with 1ncb and 3points

i think thats about it for now!!!!

thanks

Hi. I have just bought an 06 (88 bhp) ONE D myself. I love it! I take it from your post you are looking at the 75bhp D and not the later 88bhp D?
I think I might be able to answer a few of your questions about re-mapping it / chipping. (Although I have no experience with my own car as at 19 I really don’t think the insurance co would entertain a chip)

The 75bhp engine seems to be easily tuneable to around 90 / 95bhp with a chip
The 88bhp engine is tuneable to around 110, again with a chip.
Loads of places do it but as an example look @ Superchips - Superchips Applications. (http://www.superchips.co.uk/models.php?model=ALL&make=23&fueltype=2)

Cost wise around £500 seems to be the going rate.

From what I have read (if I'm wrong I'm sure others will correct me) the car can tolerate the power with no need to mod any other components (e.g. no cases of clutch slippage I know of)

As you have said other mods can be made to the car like intercoolers etc and I'm sure with those added you could get the car to the 120 - 130 figure you mentioned. I haven’t read anything about people doing this, although again others will have. I have only been in the MINI world since just before Christmas.

Seats wise I have factory sports seats and they are great. But the JCW seats seem to receive nothing but praise on here, there are quite costly mod though so you might look elsewhere.

p.s have a look at some of these threads, most of them are relevant to the ONE D and tuning it

Hope a few of your questions have been covered!

Well done James,

As the man said, there are a few threads in the diesel section about remaps. MTH offer one for £245 I think, and they claim 98bhp just with the remap, whatever it is, it makes a heck of a difference to the car, try essential mini.co.uk, they are in the Midlands and they offer the MTH remap, but if you buy the lead off them and you have got a laptop, you can do the remap yourself, after you have paid and have received the file from them of course!

Insurance group on the OneD is low at group 4 I think, so you shouldn't have any issues there, I know when I turned 21, my insurance halved over night, down to £500 from £1000 a year!

Don't be put off by the OneD only being 75bhp, the reality is that on the road, especially b-roads, you should be able to keep up with a Cooper, never mind a One!

I think that answers most of your questions, but if there are any more, fire them on the thread!:D

thanks for the answers guys!

at the moment im driving a Civic Sport which has 110bhp and is 1.6petrol!

i really wanna change to a diesel and a mini...but having driven my parents mini cooper i found that the seats are really **** compared to the Civic Type R seats! so im deffo going for the works seats when i get the mini!

also i cant seem to find a good moded Mini D! like with an aero kit!

I'm sure there will be a D out there with an Aero kit somewhere, it is a matter if the other options are on the car that you want with the MINI having so many possible options available!

All I'll say is make sure you get the sports seats, they are much comfier than the standard jobbies, and the OneD standard will not seem much slower than your current Civic, apart from 0-60, if you get the 88bhp one I think you'll find it is actually quicker, even though the 0-60 time is a second shy of your Petrol Civic. Anyway, it is through the bends that the MINI makes you smile, wether it is 75bhp, 88, or 120bhp, there is still lots of fun to be had!

I have to echo these comments. My younger Brother has the 75bhp ONE D and its plenty quick enough in the mid range once you build the revs up (thanks to the diesel tourque figures)
The 88bhp ONE D that I have is noticeably quicker but to be honest I still enjoy driving my Brothers aswel, its the MINI's handling which makes it so much fun. The 88 just has abit more grunt, which is obvious as it has 13 more hp. The 0-60 on the 88 is 11.9s and the 75 is 13.5s. But in the real world 0-60 doesnt mean that much in the general driving conditions of a daily drive. In gear both are nice and pokey, and are even slightly quicker from 50 - 75 than the 1.6 Cooper. :D

Yep sports seats are fine until you sort your upgrade.
Finding a ONE D with a high spec is somewhat of a nightmare it took me about a month of looking to find mine, which I'd like to think was a nicely spec'd car, (I was lucky to find it as the woman had specced it up to the nines 6 months prior to me getting it, and then fallen pregnant with a second child so wanted a bigger car, hence it going up for sale). The problem is that alot have been used as 'repmobiles' and not many options have been ticked. On the Aero Kit front I was told that BMW wont fit one at a dealer as it restricts air flow to the intercooler, its aparantley the same story with the spot lights. So good luck locating one, but as has been said their are definatley ONE D's sporting the kit, so again, good luck finding one :)

MY dealer will fit Aero kit and Spots on a OneD, although, I have only had the latter fitted, when I enquired, the only thing they mentioned is that they have done it before, but it will not look that good because the OneD has a small exhaust and it doesn't fill the large cut-out in the aero bumper - I know Aston on here had it done, and bought an exhaust end from Halfords, and it looked

P.S. Never overheated yet................... Runs off to touch wood desk...............
