Just called Euro car parts and the front brake pads without vat were £28, but with VAT they are £49 with VAt so no difference from BMW price.

I am shocked they are quoting you an hour to fit brake pads. I did my own for the first time a few weeks ago. Never changed brake pads in my life. Took me 30 minutes for the first set, and 15 minutes for the second set. I didnt have the brake wear sensors.

Only additional costs for me a a 7mm allen key attachment for my socket set and a pot of copper grease. Its such a simple job that a monkey like me can do it, so any garage should cope okay. If you have hit your brake wear sensor that will need replacing too, so make sure the garage does it. No reason why you cant watch.

What Jon says! ;)

Monkey can do it!

Had problems with my work car - really bad brake judder and got my mate who's a mechanic to do them so I knew the job was done proper as I can do them myself but wanted to isolate any problems!

And there's a few little things that he done that i now know for the future!

Ie cleaning up the sliding part of the caliper with a file etc

Loads of copper grease!

Nice new brakes with no Judder!

Shame it cost about £250 for MOT £150 for a new rad and the head gaskets just gone so no selling it now! :(

Pug was -
£40 for PADS AND DISCS :D
£30 for 2 hours of his time as this is what work pay him! :D (robbing get but it's better than paying his boss £40 an hour + vat)

What's the obsession with genuine pads?

Aslong as you buy apec mintex etc don't see any problems! :D

Just priced pads at local factors QH pads = £32 inc vat

I got my local garage to fit me some rear discs and pads when I had my eibach springs put on (end 2005)...bought the parts from Mini was gonna do it myself but as they were fitting the springs I thought id let them do it...£30 new sensor wire discs and pads fitted. Did the fronts myself taking my time in less than 1hr. Half the time its the silly labour rate that costs you money.
I need new pads and discs all round, my car goes in for its MOT in a couple of weeks... im sure they will give me some ridic price and say they all need changing or will probably through the old...ahh well its MOT pass depends on it...at which point ill say ill do it myself and if the brakes are that bad why hasnt the sensor light come on ? hmmmm!

Wonder what it would cost for new pads and discs all round from Mini in there Labour rate??? ouch springs to mind?

well i spoke to the quickfit bloke they wont fit them if i buy the pads for them and as they dont sell the pads so i cant have it done there. Called a few other small one man band garages around here and none of them want to touch the car due to ECU etc so its to the stealers on Saturday will get it booked in then. Just puts me off shopping around for a good price now as i got no where with it all. So just makes me go to bmw stealers for everything. :( oh well will go to my local Hailsham and pay £125 for it.

whats the ECU got to do with it:confused:

Haggi
Feb 7th, 2007, 11:44 AM
ECU bit is total bollo<ks the only thing that needs done in the ecu is the brake fuild re set and you can buy the serivce inidicator reset of ebay for 40 quid that covers the resets for all services the mini has

:: Jon ::
Feb 7th, 2007, 11:45 AM
if its only the pads that need changing and not the fluid then the ecu doesnt need to be touched.. what does the computer say ????

*Vikki*
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:01 PM
compyer dont say anything i didnt even mention ECU to them but they have all said it .. does ECU need something done to it when the light comes on the dash when sensor is activated?

:: Jon ::
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:06 PM
is the light on???

if the light comes on bmw just reset it by hooking it up.. if the light isnt on.. they dont touch it

*Vikki*
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:17 PM
no the light isnt on yet... if it was and the light is required to be turned off (i have had to have this done when i got JCW seats with the airbag light come on) i will need to pay tem £40 to do that as they charge for that. :)

:: Jon ::
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:19 PM
so explain to a garage that they dont need to touch the ECU :rolleyes:

*Vikki*
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:32 PM

:: Jon ::
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:35 PM
why dont you just go into a pub.. not a posh one.. a normal drinkers pub.. and shout

"IF I PAY YOU £40 WILL YOU CHANGE MY BRAKE PADS"

and I bet you'll find someone who is more than qualified to change them...

*Vikki*
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:40 PM
yea but brakes are an important thing and i dont trust just anyone to handle my MINI, so ill go to the stealers :)

:: Jon ::
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:46 PM
but you were moaing about paying them...

you can do nothing wrong when changing pads... its a simple take one out put the other in its place job...

*Vikki*
Feb 7th, 2007, 01:53 PM
