: Auto and ASC+T Martin L Mar 19th, 2007, 10:10 AM Maybe an ignorant question here, but is it worth having traction control and an auto?
Surely it's very difficult to wheelspin an auto.
Am I best off going with DSC rather then ASC+T  MIN 18 Mar 19th, 2007, 11:58 AM I think DSC is a higher form of ASC+T Richard Crofts Mar 19th, 2007, 12:09 PM DSC integrates traction (and ASC) with various other electronic wizardry to give you an option that controls not only traction by reducing power to and from specific wheels but also braking wheels independantly of each other etc to correct slides....its far more complicated than that but like Min18 says DSC includes ASC and TC Snowie Mar 19th, 2007, 12:11 PM Even on an Auto I would take DSC and all of it's wizardry Martin L Mar 19th, 2007, 01:13 PM Cheers guys :)
Maybe I should rephrase my question...
If I have an auto should I not bother with ASC+T.
I have it specc'd at the moment but am now thinking why have I gone for it.
I have no concerns about DSC as I know what it's for and it's abilities, but I'm thinking I probably don't need it as this car will be for my other half ;)
Am I spending the £110 or so notes for no reason?
Should add it's only a Cooper too. If it were an S I'd definately have the DSC. Saxford Mar 19th, 2007, 01:37 PM Hi Martin - for better or worse, I've spec'd a MC auto with ASC+T and it's due to be delivered later this week. So if your decision can wait a few more days, I should be able to give you some practical feedback as to whether it was worth it or not! ;)
My logic was that you sometimes have to boot automatics a bit to get them to move off smartly - eg joining onto a roundabout, or turning out of a T junction - and I didn't want to risk any wheelspin delaying progress! Will soon know....
Cheers

Cheers that would be great feedback.
Having just ordered at the weekend I've got a few weeks to play with the spec :) AndyP Mar 20th, 2007, 11:51 PM We currently have a first gen Cooper S auto with ASC+T and it works fine. It doesn't kick in too much and does reduce the spin from wheels when pulling away at roundabouts etc.
We had a Cooper CVT for a couple of years before our current S and we had DSC on that. To be honest, although it did help us out a bit on some slippery roundabouts, we felt it kicked in far too much, took too much control out of our driving.
We have a R56 Cooper S auto on order (delivery now towards the end of April) and we have specced that with AST+T. Wouldn't go for DSC again, but would always go for ASC.
Hope that helps.

Hi Martin
Tried to provoke wheelspin a couple of times today - first opportunity with a bit of real rain - and although I was too busy watching out for other traffic to see if the ASC+T indicator flashed, it did feel like something grabbed and held the revs back. Quick progress while joining a wet roundabout anyway!
Rather inconclusive, and I'll give it another shot soon. Bit reluctant to pile the revs on too high until the new toy has done a few more miles!
BTW, really loving the auto box - lots of ways to play it, and it seems to work very smoothly. On a longish run today the average mpg crept just over 40 - happy with that, after 400 miles total so far.
Hope that helps a smidge.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it and thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it now. My car is going to go into build soon so I can't change the spec
