: MCS in storage

Before I start this is not a for sale ad......its a genuine question that someone outside from M2 has asked :o

A friend of the family has a November 2004 MCS Works that the are storing for one of their friends. A year ago the went to Australia on a 9mth contract and put the car in storage in order for it to be there when they are back! However, the contract has now been extended by a further 2yrs making storage almost pointless. They love the car so much they want to do this but it would make very little financial sense.

Together with this it has an unusually high spec.

DS/DS
JCW Kit (not brakes)
17" spokes
Chilli Pack
Spot Lights
Full leather seats
Heated seats
Climate Control
Parking sensors
Visibility Pack
Tinted windows
Harmon Kardon
Folding mirrors
MFSW
Sat Nav
and probably more...only had a quick look!

It seemed to have everything on it and was apparently £25k ish two years back.

The car aswell has only done 11,000 miles due to being stored.

They almost see it as their pride and joy (which is immaculate) will still be there for them on return but two more years and this car probably would have lost another £3-4k and started to develop problem associated with storage.

I have suggested they sell it and buy a new one if they return (if they ever do!). I suggested it would be worth around £15,000 based on the low miles, almost a year of warrenty left, condition and spec.

Would the fact that it has been in storage for a year be detremental to its value at the moment? Is this being to optimistic or pesimistic  the dealer has offered £13,500 without viewing.

I have driven the car around a warehouse tonight and it starts fine and runs fine, just needs a good trip out!

The car seems to have had the first TLC service before they went (15,000 til next) but the brake fluid change is now 91 days overdue.

Almost made me sad that there was this mint top top spec MCS Works sitting in the corner of a factory possibly for a further two years :(

I have tried having a look at prices and with such a high spec it is hard to guage as is the fact it has been off the road for a year.

Any advise on what to do or what it is worth would be much appreciated, as I said this is not a plug, they have no idea and will go on what I say unless someone more in the know steps forward :p

thanks

matt

Sell the car privately

Cars depriciate, so when its doing nothing you are chucking money away

Even if they don't need to buy a car where they are, stick the money in a high interst account and buy an even nicer car when they get back - or buy a nice MINI in Oz?

would make sense wouldnt it. its just depreciating there and a car thats been stored for three years will be difficult to sell!

If I were your friends, I would stick it on a boat. As my 18 mo. relocate looks to be turnign into 4 years, I'm so very glad the MINI came along with me (and the company paid shipping).
