So to keep the information thread clean, and make it worthy of a sticky, I thought a banter thread may have some value.

I changed the questiosn - would those who already contributed please add the details of thier mini (75 or 88 BHP).

As to further questions - what is the main difference between the MTH plug in remap and an encoded one like Ray Wests - what dies the RW solution offer over the MTH and Superchips of this world ?

""Have always wondered though what would happen when it comes to MOT time, what with the extra smoke belting out?""

Quote from Aldo on the serious thread!

Aldo, yours did smoke then, even with a Ray West 'personal' remap. When did it smoke, just when you booted it?

Ray West could probably tailor it more to the car by getting it on the rollers and giving you more power/torque wherever you want it in the power curve, but going from Aldo's quote, it didn't stop it smoking the same as my 'plug and play' remap.

Basically my MTH remap is no different to the Ray West, it is still altering fuelling, and I still uploaded the tuner file via the OBDII socket...and I had to send my standard details off to MTH before they sent me the 'tuner' file. The difference with the Ray West is that they would download the standard details whilst the car was there and then design a tuner file around that the same as MTH, but then would be able to 'tweak' it further on the rollers/computer, I'd say.....

Yeah it was put on the rolling road before and after the tuning, as the other Si says, probably no more different than his, although I would like to think so for the price I paid!
It smoked when booted and the Turbo kicked in.
Be interesting though to hear off people with their ONE D's chipped/remapped that are due their MOT and how they got on?

YellowBlack,

With the MTH, what is visible - do you have cable draping all over the footwell, or is it not permanetly connected. Looking at the cost of the MTH, it is looking like a very good option, given the price point versus the superchips. I am loooking for the downside

Aldo, when I take mine for servicing, or if I keep it that long, an MOT, I will return to standard 'No Smoke' anyway, so emissions will be standard.

Jongs, no, the cable is only plugged in when uploading the 'remap/tuner' file with your own laptop, or if a dealer does it for you, his laptop, just like Ray West would do. It plugs into the OBD socket underneath your steering wheel, check yours, you just replace the cover when your done, nothing is visible, apart from some nice smoke when you boot it ;) You don't add anything materialistic to your car, it is just the same as saving a word file on the hard drive of your computer.

We need a Superchips user to give us his/her point of view/experiences!

Can I ask who you bought the MTH from, and did they offer you a choice of' profiles ' . The more I read oabout the MTH, the more I think its a must have. How long did you have to run it in for ?. I got an insurance quote from admiral (I know not the best people, but I have a situation with ownership of the car, that prevents me going to adrian flux) and they want 455, for me and missus ,in SW14 with 10k business usage and commuting. 2 Years no claims. How does that compare for others. My insurance last year was 396 with elephant. All fully comp

I bought my MTH from Essential Mini in Staffordshire, try googling it I think it should come up. (I don't know if i'm allowed to put their name on here as I don't think they sponsor MINI2 any more:o )Simon from there was very helpful during the install process.
I didn't purchase the remap until my MINI had done approx. 5k miles, and it takes approx 3k for the remap&ecu to 'learn' the new settings, although there is a noticable difference straight away, as you don't need as much right boot to get to car moving, and when you do give it the boot = :D :D
I live in ST10, no business miles, fully comp, garaged, 4 years no claims, myself only on policy, with MINI Cover, i'm paying £390. So your quote sounds about right Jongs;)
