: any simple way to tell if i have sports sus picard May 14th, 2007, 12:46 PM other than the feel of the car, like are the springs a different colour ?
this is the std factory fit sports sus that you can get free with chili pack
invoice states it on but car feels smoother than the cooper i had with 16s and this is a mcs with 17s
maybe i am being paranoid but im sure they forgot to put it on Paul May 14th, 2007, 12:49 PM Which Cooper with 16s? If you mean first V second gen, then the Sports Suspension, in fact suspension in general, will feel smoother and more compliant than the first generation. Sports Suspension is no where near as firm or jarring as the old SS+. picard May 14th, 2007, 12:53 PM no i have had a r56 cooper now got a r56 cooper s
cooper did not have ss on 16s
cooper s suppose to have ss on 17s
but cooper s feels smoother
wondering if there is a easy way to tell if i have SS Paul May 14th, 2007, 12:56 PM Mmm. Not apart from checking part numbers, which could be tricky for sure! picard May 14th, 2007, 01:04 PM o well will have to trust that the invoice is correct and it does have SS Scrogg May 14th, 2007, 01:07 PM PM me the registration number and the last 7 digits of your chassis number picard, and I'll be able to tell you for certain whether it has or has not got Sports Suspension. picard May 14th, 2007, 10:56 PM PM me the registration number and the last 7 digits of your chassis number picard, and I'll be able to tell you for certain whether it has or has not got Sports Suspension.
you have a pm and thank you for this KenL May 15th, 2007, 06:12 AM Funny this. You would think, even if they were both on regular suspension, the one on 17s would feel bumpier.
I wonder if they have been tweaking at the factory? robble May 15th, 2007, 06:54 AM even with SS the 07 feels smoother than an 06 S. Scrogg May 15th, 2007, 09:08 AM you have a pm and thank you for this
No problem at all, glad to help where I can.
You can rest assured that your dealer did not forget to put the Sports Suspension on. Paul May 15th, 2007, 09:10 AM Surely you're only really double checking what is on the invoice. There's always the chance (slim as it may be), they got it wrong at the factory. Scrogg May 15th, 2007, 09:41 AM Not trying to worry the lad are you Mr M? ;)
New car invoices are generated from the dealership's configurator (SA3) not the system that shows the original specification reports (IVS). The information on IVS is put on by MINI, not the dealerships.
I have seen one example of a car that is fitted with an extra that was not shown on the original specification report, but have yet to see one that is not fitted with something that is listed.
I'm as confident as it is possible to be without having actually built the car myself that Sports Suspension is fitted. Paul May 15th, 2007, 09:48 AM It's just I've seen several examples on here of cars that arrive "not quite right", and that's for things you can spot (like, for example, the infamous "green" MINI). So it COULD be the case that it's had the wrong parts fitted.
As you say, confident as you can be, but I personally would ask the dealer if they could double check next time you're in. But I wouldn't lose sleep over it. :) popey May 15th, 2007, 03:40 PM But you are forgeting....... Scrogg has his trusty crystal ball aka (TCBv2) think its a v2:D
Mine is also very smoth with ss and 17s picard May 15th, 2007, 11:32 PM considering it was free as i got chili pack i am not that bothered, it just sounds better down the pub "i have sports suspension"
reason i ask is i thought SS lowered the car. now my cooper r56 without SS its aerial use to ever so slightly catch the garage door and i thought that if the cooper S r56 was lowered the aerial would clear the door but it catches the same.
it must ride at the same height but be stiffer robble May 15th, 2007, 11:35 PM it must ride at the same height but be stiffer
yup.
like viagra. stiffer but not any bigger. picard May 15th, 2007, 11:51 PM seems there is a way to find out by measuring the sway bar thickness
According to the realoem site,
the Cooper R56 has
a 23.5 mm front bar and 18 mm rear bar for Sport Suspension, and
a 21.5 mm front bar and 16 mm rear (same part number here as the 1st Gen SS bar)
for regular (non-Sport).
The Cooper S R56 has a
a 23.5 mm front and 18 mm rear bar for Sport suspension, and
a 22.5 mm front and 17 mm rear bar for regular (non-Sport)
i have a electronic measuring device
can any one point in the direction of what a sway bar is LookalikeJCW May 16th, 2007, 12:03 AM So what does the sport suspention actually do does it lower it atall or do anything for the suspention, thanks mark robble May 16th, 2007, 07:46 AM So what does the sport suspention actually do does it lower it atall or do anything for the suspention, thanks mark
hmm.. stiffer suspension = less body roll. Probably less understeer also. LookalikeJCW May 16th, 2007, 11:36 AM so do you think a good differance then? a want to keep my warrenty so i wasgoing to fit these
thanks mark LookalikeJCW May 18th, 2007, 05:42 PM ? any help on this robble May 18th, 2007, 10:49 PM IT doesn't lower it at all. It does make it handle twisties better. Ride is rougher than normal suspension but not overly so. SS is not as bad as the normal 06 S suspension for bumps. LookalikeJCW May 30th, 2007, 03:20 PM Thanks | |
