: The Montana "Dragon" dorkboy May 22nd, 2007, 01:55 PM So I went to Montana on mother's day for my 1st awesome ride in my MINI. We took tons of photos, dorkboy0 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z268/dorkboy0/) and we took a video as well. The video was huge 360 mb, but I shrunk it down and I still feel it's acceptable.
It's about 11 miles with I think 68 turns. I first did it in 2001 on my motorbike, and I haven't been back since then. It takes around 2.5 hours to get there, and in my opinion, it's well worth it!
When I first heard of the "Tail of the Dragon", Montana quickly came to mind. Hence me referring it as the "Dragon".
You can go to youtube and type in "montana dragon" in the search and there it is. Enjoy
I used my Canon Powershot SD900
Scott. xtremepsionic May 22nd, 2007, 07:53 PM That's a pretty decent road. Ferroequine May 23rd, 2007, 03:45 AM Nice! I've been on that stretch of road, and the pictures don't do it justice. If I recall, there is one 180 degree switchback that is really sweet. The road is like a baby dragon's tail.
Nice video also. What did you use for a camera mount? xtremepsionic May 23rd, 2007, 03:47 AM Nice video also. What did you use for a camera mount?
I thought the camera mount was called "a friend"? Unless I'm on crack :D
Any other roads twisty and fun within 2 hours of Calgary? dorkboy May 23rd, 2007, 06:31 AM Yeah, the camera mount was my buddy Marc that has been making movies (BMX and snowboard) for over 10 years now. The next time we head down, he is going to bring his $7500 video camera!
I might go on saturday, anybody want to join me? RS3TURN May 23rd, 2007, 02:12 PM That is a fun road. I have driven it quite a few times in various vehicles, never in my MINI though. The last time I tried the road was closed due to a rock slide.....:( heli_guy May 23rd, 2007, 03:16 PM A shorter twisty road just outside of calgary is highway 40 NORTH. It starts just west of cochrane. It's a fun little road. (I thought so anyway). You go in and then back out again as it ends on a gravel road.
Trevor. British SD May 24th, 2007, 03:12 PM Agreed, there are some awesome driving roads in Montana. It was nicer when the speed limit years back was displayed as non specific, "Reasonable & Prudent" and the only thing that slowed you down was potholes. Cowtown Mini Jun 8th, 2007, 08:45 PM I am glad I was not driving my bike going the other way while you were driving.
Coming around a corner, :aargh:, look a mini in my lane!!!
Is that what the gloves are for? Cleaning dead bikers off your windshied.
Nice bit of driving you should be proud and riding the bus. AprilWhine Jun 8th, 2007, 11:08 PM I removed the link to the video because it showed illegal activity. Please do not post about excessive speed or reckless driving. :( Mr Grean Aug 11th, 2007, 02:03 PM Should try the "Needles" roads around Mt Rushmore for the ultimate drive. I just rode it again on my motorcycle and it's the first place I have ridden where the 5 mph warning signs or corners are NOT kidding!!!!! | |
