I posted this in the 'Banter' Section but someone suggested I post it in here too - hope that's OK.

Anyway, take heed fellow Mini drivers in London! Here's the link:

What a bunch of crap. I knew that the authorities were trying to scam us out of all our money, but this is completely ridiculous. Good luck fighting the penalties!

All the best,
Andrew.

I always walk when in Lambeth ;)
But in all honesty that is scandalous, you have the evidence and if it were me I'd be hiring a hot shot law firm to sue them senseless
I think there are about 8 serious violations you could sting them for and by doing so it would probabably uncover a huge pile of "corruption" that has caught out others.

numero uno, attempting to pervert the cause of justice, secondly obtaining property by deception (attempted but still carries the same weighting). Nip down lambeth police station ( best one may be kennington nick) and ask to put on a crime report (just so you get a number ) take down copies of the pics and offer them as evidence. If they refuse ask to speak to the duty inspector as you believe a criminal offence has occurred. Then contact Lambeth council with the crime number and of course the local paper and watch them squirm!

You might also consider falsifcation of evidence and some personal angles for stress caused by the events that the accusations caused. I'm still trying to think of the others......:o

Thanks Goonery. I have to say, having spoken to a number of other people, I am tempted to report them to the Police. As it is, I have just had an email from a journo on a national newspaper, so watch this space. . .

Gee, and i thought our Aussie cameras here were a complete bunch of revenue raising crap.
Best of luck in reversing the fine.

Oh My...........I love it! It would be so funny if it wasn't so sad! Why not just add some money to the road tax and call it a safety charge and do away with all kinds of cameras! Instead maybe teach people to drive properly or why not ban cars all together! Oh they won't do that will they! They make far too much money from us poor drivers!

Hi all,

Well, it's been in the local press this week, see here: Angry Driver Claims Council Altered Images Of Offence (from Your Local Guardian) (http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/streathamnews/display.var.1472513.0.angry_driver_claims_council_ altered_images_of_offence.php)

Waiting for a reporter from a National paper to get back to me now. . .

You could try and find the black mini driver to back up your story, if i'm being honest however from those pictures I don't really see how they prove you didn't do it. It looks as if you could just zipped through and sped off and the black mini had to stop suddenly and had not had a chance to set off again. Obviously I believe you but i'm just saying I don't think they will prove your innocence unless the black mini driver can come forward to back up your story.

Crammy

Edit: I just noticed they have the time to the second at the bottom of each pic so you can use that and the distance moved by each car in the given time to prove if you should have given way. Good luck!

"Penalty charge: Jonathan Greatorex is angry about his ticket"

And boy, do you look angry:

;)

Seriously though, good luck with your claim. Like above, you could be on thin ice with the sequence of photos you've got there, which is a pity. Things are never as simple as they should be. :(

Crammy,

They have the full motion video which I hope will tell the whole story!! The whole sequence happened over a 4 second period so the stills really do make it look worse!

Paul,

The photographer said "look grumpy" and I obliged. . . I'm not that miserable looking usually. . . honest. . . :smile::wink:

I just hope you're allowed to park where the photo was taken, or you could be in trouble all over again, WITH photographic evidence! ;)

Nah Paul, the photos for the paper were taken on my driveway and not even Scambeth have any jurisdiction over the territories of The Peoples Democratic Republic of Mini Moo!! :D;)

Mini Moo.....I saw you on the telly!!

Well done on raising this issue as it would seem you are not the only one to have the same problem!!!

I wish you luck with getting it all sorted out once and for all!

We're pretty lucky here in the States. The only real camera issues we have are "Red Light Cameras" that will take a photo of someone running a red light. The automatically activate when the traffic light a particualr camera is covering, turns red, and a sensor in the road detects some moron going through. Bright flash, and you've been busted.

Only defense is that you weren't the driver, but the photo usually shows the face. If you've got heavily tinted (probably illegal) windows and the driver can't be seen, you have no argument.

Or if you had to move out the way for an emergency services vehicle?

I think people in UK have had problems with those cameras when they moved over the line for an ambulance

Gromit801
Jun 27th, 2007, 04:54 PM
No problems with emergency vehicles. At intersections (the only place with the cameras) an emergency vehicle will use the opposing lane to go around stopped traffic if necessary. If you are directed to drive through the intersection by emergency personnel, you're covered.

We don't have the CCTV thing like you lot suffer under.

Thanks all,

Some rather disturbing new evidence came to light today.

See here: Image foreshortening (http://www.greatorex.org/lambethparking/image_foreshortening.htm)

I suspect Lambeth's CCTV cars days may well be numbered. . .
