The Mt. Washington Auto Road is opening early (http://www.mountwashingtonautoroad.com/module-StaticContent-display-scid-215.html) on July 1st and August 5th so folks can drive to the top and see the sun rise.

On July 1, the auto road opens at 4am for a 5:04am official sunrise. On August 5th, the road's open at 4:30am for a 5:36am sunrise.

Is anyone interested in joining me for a jaunt up there? 7/1 is, of course, this coming Sunday. If enough people are interested, I might consider staying at, say, the Town & Country, but I'm more likely to just drive up early otherwise. Although I'm not that familiar with the roads around here (or there) yet, I've got a couple of maps that outline a tour or two that would make for a fun drive back.

C'mon, *someone* must want to go! I need the motivation. :D

We'll be in Buffalo on 7/1. Will have to think about the 8/5 one. Just remember, there will probably be two-way traffic on the road.

Current visibility is 101 meters, or 1/16th of a mile. Maybe next month'll be better. *yawn*

I take it you opted to skip it this month... I may be up for the trip on 8/5. Once I get over the whole getting up at 2am thing it sounds pretty terrific.

Hmmm.................if it just wasn't 6 hours away I'd be up for this. :aargh:

Unfortunately I did. And the drive up there is longer than I thought. :( According to Mr. GPS, the ETE is two and a half hours from Nashua. The alarm went off at 1 and I was planning on being on the road at 1:30. I knew the weather was going to be dodgy, so wasn't exactly hurrying. If there's anyone else interested in going next month, it might be fun to try to stay at the T&C instead of doing an O'dark-thirty departure from the Southern part of the state.

Except for a brief spurt of visibility up to about 70 miles (?!) at 3am, it's been virtually zero for the last 24 hours. The poor meteorologists up there have had their choice of "fog and windy", "freezing fog and windy", and "light showers snow freezing fog and windy" since yesterday, according to the NWS (http://www.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KMWN.html).

Thanks for not laughing, Sarah. I'll rustle up this thread again in a few weeks. :)
