OSMC Vineyard Tour 2007

Stop your whining that you have nothing to do this summer and join us on a leisurely ride to the Sakonnet Vineyards & Winery in Little Compton, RI! This tour is a fun and unique chance for us to get together with friends, in a bunch of Mini’s and visit one of New England’s premier Winery’s. The tour will start off in Barrington, RI and wind its way through historic Barrington, Warren, Bristol, Portsmouth and Little Compton, Rhode Island culminating at the Sakonnet Vineyards.

At the Vineyard we will be taking a tour of the facility, seeing how the winery began and how they produce some of the finest wines on the East Coast. After the private tour there will be a chance to taste a few of Sakonnet Vineyards best selections and have a scenic lunch at the Coop Café or pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the beautiful landscape. After lunch everyone will have a chance to spend more time on the Sakonnet Vineyards property or head out to Route 77 (Westmain Road) to visit the numerous local and unique shops including quite a few quaint antique shops. There are also many shops selling homemade pies and there is always the needed stop at the famous Grays Ice Cream which is just down the street!

DETAILS (more to follow, but just the basic facts)

This is proving to be a popular tour this summer, so sign-up early! Cut off for registration will be 07/22/07 as a total count needs to be given to the Vineyard a few weeks before the event.

DATE and TIME: check in at 8:30am – 9:30am on 08/05/07 (Sunday), Barrington High School parking lot, off Rt 114 (County Road). Anticipated tour time will be 11am.

REGISTRATION: Total of 30 Mini’s will be the cap. Please post or PM me (Robert Cahill, RIMINISJCW) with your Screen Name, your real name and the names of those who will be riding with you.

THIS EVENT, AS IS ALL EVENTS, IS OPEN TO EVERYONE, not just OSMC. SPREAD THE WORD TO YOUR OTHER MINI FRIENDS.

Event will be $15.00 per person, which will include the tour, wine tasting, Mini swag bags, vineyard info and maps, etc. You will also receive tickets in your bag for a chance to win some cool door prizes!!

Remember sign-up early. Registration is limited to 30 Mini’s and registration ends 07/22/07.

Traveling a distance? Looking to take an extra day in the area? There are a few hotels in the area and I will put some information together for anyone who may want to spend extra time in the area. Newport is also just a quick 30-minute hop from Little Compton and a Monday (if you get the day off) is a low key time to visit in the summer and hit the beaches with very little traffic and crowds.

Two close hotels, half way between Sakonnet Vineyard and Newport, RI (just over the Mount Hope Bridge)that will not break your wallet.

Is my sister not joining you? Is it open to Mazdas? I may know some people that might be interested.

Your sister will be at Autox that morning. So I figure I may as well go for a ride in the AM. As far as the mazda thing, I don't see why not.

well, you don't really have to sample any wines, you can still enjoy the tour though. I CAN tell you, we did the pre-run today, the scenery is absolutely wonderful, and the vineyard is beautiful also. There's a nice cafe there for lunch and a nice picnic area with a frog pond.

Annette, you're in with the mazda :D

Great idea for a run. I'll see what my schedule allows. One question...do they serve beer there? ;)

I don't recall beer being sold there. It's a berry farm, for GS! I doubt they would have a license to sell spirits anyway, unless they have blueberry wine.:hmph:

This sounds like a lot of fun - great idea. I'm not sure if I'll be able to join you, but thought you may be interested in the article that ran in the Boston Globe today about the three vineyards in RI:

Nice article! If this run goes well this year, next years may need to be a three stop Vineyard run, or just mix it up each year. The ideas just keep flowing:D

Just realized a while back that I replied in the wrong thread! I'm definitely an OG not knowing where I am...Josh asking if they serve beer and I thought I was in the berry thread!:aargh:
So, do they actually serve beer at the wineries? Wine-flavored beer? Yikes! :aargh:

Nope, sory, no beer here. Just the grape, no hops. They do however make a new champagne at Sakonnet Vineyards
