I'm still enjoying a remarkably healthy, relaxed retirement, - casually cruising the countryside with no particularly newsworthy experiences - except to watch my odometer pass 360,000 last Sunday. MINI's windows, door locks, light bulbs, sunroof, etc. still work like their creators intended. Engine hums nice - and nothing rattles, squeaks or smokes. Heck, I've never even had a knob fall off or a piece of trim come loose! I suppose I'll have to replace that original muffler someday, but in the meantime, I still look forward to driving someplace, anyplace, on those days when no one knows or cares where I am.

But, now I learn that MadJohn is still out there - putting in one fresh engine after another - still determined to pass me - and encouraged by the fact that I'll have about 5 months of snowy, icey roads ahead. Nevertheless, I'd better keep driving carefully and keep this car; - if I ever bought another that turned out to be 'normal', I might wish for 'the old one'.

That truly is amazing! Keep up the good work.

Wish you many more happy miles :)

You've put on miles at about the same rate as I have; -
I just started piling them on about 3 years sooner.

My MINI has needed very little attention; - but the only people I've allowed to
mess-around under the 'bonnet' have been BMW/MINI trained mechanics.
As a result, they're as proud and careful of this car as I am - they Want it to succeed!

Keep enjoying your MINI, macdee - It's a Phenomenal Car - Keep treating it as it deserves!

You ever going to ride in my car again?
I'm a little older now -
My car's a little older too -
But, Pretty Girls are always Pretty Girls
and somehow make my MINI more fun than ever!

P.S. 'Minibee' has invited me to Madison next Saturday to meet 'CarNut' -
America's most knowledgable, helpful, articulate On-Line MINI Service Advisor.
(My car's running just fine; - but, anything you'd like me to ask him?)

Carnut is a nice guy. I hope you can go, because it sounds like a lovely bunch of people. (Yourself included.) :D I heard about it from Writestuff.

I'm trying to talk her into a roadtrip next spring called 'Ducks on the Dragon', to, from and across North Carolina. (I want to see Kitty Hawk.) If you're not doing anything (end of April/early May), come on down!

I passed 90,000 miles in New Hampshire in October at 'Come to MAMA 7'. I'm catching up to you very slowly!

Gee, YMNY, I can't remember ever planning anything but my Wedding that far in advance! But, please keep me on your mailing list. By then my Snow Tires should be off - and I may be ready for a longer drive somewhere else to celebrate. (My Wisconsin map is running out of roads I've not already highlighted - and its folds are all coming apart)

The Dragon is quite a road, if you run out of Wisconsin roads.

Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and Cherohala Skyway, Graham Co, NC (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/maps_dragon_road.html)

There's a national Mini event there 4/28-5/2/2010. I haven't been to it since 2004, but I think the ducks might like to go, even if it's just to drive on the Dragon, and head off to Kitty Hawk. :)

I've always loved to drive - and did it for 15 years before the MINI in Great German Cars.

Yep, - I turned 84 today; - - -
and even though it was 11 degrees, it was clear and sunny.
So, I celebrated by driving a little over 400 miles
and watched the odometer turn over to 365,000 miles.

The countryside was beautifully covered with snow
that came down a few days ago, -
but, today the roads were clean and dry.
And, - nicest thing about Winter Driving - No Bugs on the Windshield!

I've never had a car whose Climate Control was as good as the MINI's.
So, I set it to 72 Degrees and drove all day without a jacket -
sunglasses on the way out - and facing an almost full moon on the way home!
Beautiful World - -
Amazing Car - -
Thankful for Another Happy, Healthy Birthday!

I looked for this thread because my Mini has done 117,000 miles and I was wondering how more many I'dget.
HWS.... Happy Birthday and best wishes for 2010!

Hi all, I've got nearly 124,000 miles on my MCS '03. Pete of Greasy's Garage keeps her in running condition. She will get new front shocks soon after getting the rear ones replaced last December. So far, good!

Some of you may remember hearing me brag that the First Repair on my 2002 MINI Cooper was
Rear Brake Pads and Rotors at 186,000 miles. "Not bad", I thought. "Most cars have been thrown away by then".

Well, - It just happened again - and I had to repeat the whole thing at 371,000 miles.
But, if you do the arithmetic, "It's Time". Things seem to be wearing out right about on schedule.

Oh - I also needed one new Rear Brake Caliper this time. Sure it was expensive, but, the Good News is that
if You sell your old MINI at 300,000 or 350,000 miles, you may never need one of those!
First part I've needed that my Dealer didn't have in stock. "We just haven't replaced many of those."

Great work Harold :D 400k soon :D Mine hasn't even done 10% of the miles yours has and has had way more warranty work...

Keep on going :D

HWS
Mar 11th, 2010, 05:48 PM
but, the subject of 'Warranty' just never seems to come up.

At about 300,000 miles, I asked what it would take to give my car a
'really-big-inspection' and declare it a "Certified Pre-Owned MINI".

"Well, the first thing we'd have to do is take over 250,000 miles off that odometer!"

Hi HWS hows things ? sorry I havn't been around , my mini has been on and off the road for the past 8months. To date it has 247,000miles on the clock. not bad for avery late 2005 reg . if it wasnt for the set backs it would be close to 295,000 miles now in less then 5yrs !
when it reaches 300,000 I am taking car off the road to cut up and sell the bits I dont need (feb 2011) I hope yours goes all the way to 500,000miles !
I dont know if i hold the record for the highest miles on a bmw mini in the UK ? can anyone 2nd this ?
