We don't know Who You Are,
or What You've Been Up To.
Even if you've parked it, you'd still be a little ahead of me.
But, I just wanted you to know -
I'm Still Back Here -
Still the Original Owner -
and Still Enjoying Every Mile!
I'm a little older now - Turned 82 on Dec 29th
and my 2002 MINI just passed 248,000 miles yesterday.
(That was on the way home from a 2000 mile round trip
from Milwaukee to the Atlantic Coast
for my 'little brother's' New Years Eve Party.)
Am I going to trade My MINI for a newer one?
Oh, No!
We've been through a lot together -
and it's kinda like that Dear Old Song -
"I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face"
(That was way back when popular songs
were not ashamed to say something nice.)
HWS HWS Feb 1st, 2008, 04:54 AM Has anyone heard if that Beautiful Red Australian 2002 MC with 251,034 Miles
was ever Sold to a New Owner?
When we first heard of that car, it was For Sale - and had about 20,000more miles than my 2002 MINI Cooper.
But, now that my Odometer reads 252,700 miles, I'm starting to wonder:
Is the 'Unknown Aussie' still Unknown?
Where is that car now?
How many miles does it have today?
Did I pass him somewhere back there - and never even know it?
Or is he still up ahead somewhere - and pulling away again?

Just Don't Know If It's His or Mine) Mike Clarke Feb 1st, 2008, 05:11 AM Congratulations on clocking up over a quarter of a millon miles HWS :D HWS Feb 1st, 2008, 05:29 AM Shucks! - I never set out to clock a 1/4 million miles on my MINI.
I just enjoyed driving this car even more than the fine German cars I'd driven for the previous 45 years.
The miles just 'kinda happened' while I 'Motored' -
and enjoyed the freedom of my retirement.

Still Having Fun,
Thankful for This Beautiful World AprilWhine Feb 1st, 2008, 06:14 AM I put you back in the thread title, HWS! As far as I know, the unknown Australian parked it and never moved again. ;) minicabrio Feb 1st, 2008, 07:33 AM Congratulations HWS - clocking up 250,000 miles in any car is quite some achievement  :D iain cooper Feb 1st, 2008, 09:37 AM HWS, is there anything in your driving technique/habits that you think prolongs the life and fun in your cooper ?
also what is your secret for long life, and your great attitude to life in general !!
ps I very much enjoy your posts and driving tales, look forward to the next.
Iain NeuroBeaker Feb 1st, 2008, 10:40 AM I just want to Thank 'TheFaz' for validating the fact that I've driven my 2002 MINI over 228,000 miles.
I especially appreciate that because people always seem really skeptical when guys with my hair color start telling about The Fish We Caught or . . .
How We Used to Walk 7 miles To and From School Everyday,
Through Wind and Rain and Snow,
Uphill Both Directions.
:p That's a fantastic sense of humour you have there, Sir! :D
And great job on the mileage. ;)
All the best,
Andrew.
so far i have seen 300 cars with 250k plus of which almost 20% are Mercedes! :o :p
I doubt you'll see many Mercedes vehicles from the 1999-2001 era of 'quality' on your list. :no7lb: The build quality of the older Mercedes are legend, but my Dad bought a new-build CLK in 2000 and it was seriously naff in terms of quality and reliability. Some say the quality has since returned, but I've not looked into it - I'm afraid I rather lost my interest in the three-pointed star. :hmm9kf: Paul Feb 1st, 2008, 12:11 PM ....also what is your secret for long life, and your great attitude to life in general !!

LOL really? Work out the maths on that and I think you will find that's impossible. AprilWhine Feb 1st, 2008, 10:08 PM LOL really? Work out the maths on that and I think you will find that's impossible.
Difficult but not impossible
1500000 / 4 = 375000
If he works 60 hours per week and takes off all US holidays it comes to 120 miles per hour worked.
But if two drivers were working, that means it's down to 90 mph.
and if each of them did 20 hours overtime a week, then it comes to 60 mph, still difficult for a concrete truck.
If it runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it comes to 43 mph and that is a do-able speed for the truck. But I can't believe one truck would stay in service under those conditions for any length of time. madjohn Feb 1st, 2008, 10:15 PM Hi guys , I'm not new to this sit but havnt been on for a while ! but what this space as I will have the most miles in the uk on my mini by 2010 !

1. Driving Technique
Long long ago, when we were both teen agers, one of the girls in our church group said,
"I'm never afraid when you're driving."
She Trusted me; - I liked that.
And I've been a better driver ever since.
Never wanted anyone to be afraid - In my car - Or in the cars around me.
2. My Long Life
Well, God's in charge of that.
I'm Trustng Him; - He's never let me be afraid.
I like that.
And I just tell Him quite regularly how much I appreciate that.
HWS yellowmininy Feb 9th, 2008, 08:21 PM Excellent advice, HWS. :) ViscountCharles Feb 12th, 2008, 08:08 PM Hi.
Can't get close to HWS, but my launch-day Cooper S (an 02-plate) has done over 105,000 miles without needing anything important doing to it (apart from a clutch which was dodgy from new, and replaced at about 3.000 miles). Still feels fine. And I was *extremely* skeptical about 15-18,000 miles between oil changes too. Darthbladerni Feb 12th, 2008, 08:53 PM This is very interesting reading through all this.
My 2001 ONE has 47000 miles on it atm. No where near HWS.
Keep in touch with this forum HWS. Your stories are inspiring :D markymark1 Feb 17th, 2008, 09:12 PM HWS has an incredble tally - i too drive a 2002 cooper everyday and have clocked up 99,000 miles - due a service in the morning - i agree its still a great car nearly 6 years after i bought it - can i beat HWS - its going to be hard even catching up! maymini Feb 19th, 2008, 11:59 AM Pleased to announce my 04 plate mini is back on the road this week. It came off the road last August with a serious engine fault (won't bore you with details, but its been a long journey from August 07 til February 08)
