: The perfect standing start! Andyb74 Oct 4th, 2007, 08:29 PM Not that I am a racer, but I do get the urge to get a quick get away from a set of traffic lights now and then!
Every time I attempt the perfect get away in my mcs I seem to kill the revs before it eventually picks up.
Any advice on the perfect standing start?
Cheers ScottyBoy Oct 4th, 2007, 09:05 PM Its a hard trick to get good at when ive got a clutch thats a bit on the dodgy side lol but when i do this i have say maybe 2500 RPM and then release the clutch and get a good bite, when doing this you always need more revs than normal but control it with the cluct at first as to not drop the RPM and kill the revs as you say, then let the clutch out and away you are.
Boro boy? were from?
Scott Alan Wolfe Oct 4th, 2007, 09:25 PM Make sure you have DSC Off. Otherwise at the first hint of wheel spin it will kick in and throttle back the engine.
When I was autocrossing I would hold the engine at 4K, then let out the clutch as I depressed the throttle. You want a little wheel spin, but not much. A Quaife doesn't hurt either.
Alan jamesbeaumont Oct 5th, 2007, 05:03 PM Just use a few more revs and feed the power in by slipping the clutch a bit more, no jerkyness. As said only a little bit of wheelspin and a strong surge of power:D Andyb74 Oct 5th, 2007, 05:25 PM Its a hard trick to get good at when ive got a clutch thats a bit on the dodgy side lol but when i do this i have say maybe 2500 RPM and then release the clutch and get a good bite, when doing this you always need more revs than normal but control it with the cluct at first as to not drop the RPM and kill the revs as you say, then let the clutch out and away you are.

Thanks for your advice.
Was at a set of lights yesterday minding my own business and a Zafira sri pulled up next to me. The lane ahead merged into 1, and I could tell they were going to give it ago.
Despite my dodgy getaway (hence the note) it was still over in a few metres! and the stock mcs triumphed. Gristy Oct 9th, 2007, 08:02 PM Originally from Acklam...moved down to Leics 10 years ago, but still a 'boro boy at heart!

No it was in Burton on Trent...there are always head to head there! I was only trying to get to work! MINI-Morgan Oct 11th, 2007, 01:00 PM Isnt it usually the Type-r and Saxo owners that seem to never want to be beaten by a MINI? I find that most small cars which look like they've been in a bad accident in the ripspeed accessories section in halfords and driven by 17 year olds usually have a try with me.
My second favourite kind of motorist, after the good old middle lane hog AndyH_MCS Oct 12th, 2007, 01:39 PM Less is more i find! I seem to have found the optimum pull away last night against a Corvette!!!! Just about 2750rpm then gradually build the revs...stamp your foot and the TC/Wheel spin is unbelieveable but having a lighter more controlled foot helped no end! Andyb74 Oct 13th, 2007, 04:16 PM will give it a go..cant believe it the passenger window has just stopped working now!
am going to give the "light tap near the door handle" a go and see if it works | |
