: BABE RALLY 2008 Infrequent Updates and Commentary Cape Cod MINI Oct 21st, 2007, 01:00 AM Oops, we're doing it again. 4 GUYS do 1 BABE are in business. I laid down $250 cash money last week for a true POS. We are attempting to make BABE Rally history by driving a 1950's era vehicle, Lucky II to New Orleans .....and hopefully back too.
Jock is retiring and will be driving a motor home or something like that to Costa Rica.....maybe he's making the more sane choice...?
Returning team members are me (Steve), Joe, Dave, and new member Bill Bayerle of one-eyed malignant eye tumor fame.
Frankly, Joe and I are rather pleased with the overall condition of the machine:redface:
Welcome to L-II:

Are you really going to put a MINI engine in it?! yellowmininy Oct 21st, 2007, 01:08 AM Looks like a bit of a 'project car'! Is that a Belvedere? You know, that's going to be tough to push all the way to New Orleans! :D Cape Cod MINI Oct 21st, 2007, 01:35 AM Nice find! Are you really going to put a MINI engine in it?!
The MINI engine pic in the other thread is what we saw at Pete's garage today. Looked like Jared's blown MCS motor so I made a "heh" sign and there you have it!

I still think it needs a hemi! yellowmininy Oct 21st, 2007, 02:12 AM More like a hemicolectomy. GBMINI Oct 21st, 2007, 02:52 PM I feel very sorry for Joe's garage Oldpaint Oct 21st, 2007, 03:32 PM Nice find. It won't need any exterior paint or body work for the rally. Have you tried to start it yet? Does it still have leaded gas in the tank? Will you be using whitewall bias ply tires? JR9907 Oct 21st, 2007, 05:05 PM It does have fuel in the tank,I think it has turned back into crude oil.I have a list of what we need to get it running and convert it from 6 volts to 12 volts.Hey Steve the cooling fan is missing.Parking in my garage is getting a little cramped.Crown Vic in one bay,my MINI in the bay next to it,Lucky 2 is on the lift my Mercedes is under it and Debbie's MINI is behind the Mercedes.I only have room for one more car in there.. Correct, no need for paint or body work. New rocker panels came w/ it but we don't need no stinking rocker panels! Must just be careful to step at least 8 inches into the car and never on the thresholds:eek: No, we did not tryt to start it. Bad thing to do when a motor has been sitting for a couple of years. Pulling all that gunk and poop up into the motor can be fatal. We are pleased that the motor is not stuck. Joe moved it an inch or two and we are happy about that. White walls...not if we can help it. We are hoping we can make Joe's Mercedes AMG(?) million dollar wheels and tires fit!

Joe, never did notice the lack of a fan! Re: the garage. Just do like the rest of us and park outside! Cape Cod MINI Oct 21st, 2007, 10:41 PM You guys do like a challenge ;)
Yup! FYI, Street Safari is doing a western region banger rally this spring. The RMR (Rocky Mountain Run) goes from Cheyenne to Las Vegas and the same rules hold, mainly $250 max for the vehicle. http://www.rockymountainrun.com/index.esp
Maybe we can do that one next year. AprilWhine Oct 22nd, 2007, 12:08 AM Yup! FYI, Street Safari is doing a western region banger rally this spring. Lucky II runs :P
and, the wheels turn in reverse, first and second gears. He's still on the lift but things are looking good! JR9907 Oct 31st, 2007, 12:19 AM Lucky ll runs great. It idles smooth,no abnormal engine noises, plenty of oil pressure.Engine temp guage is not working will check that over the weekend.Whacked the voltage regulator and the generator is now charging.Transmission shifts through the gears on the lift.Reverse seems to work.Going to clean out the fuel tank, put in some fresh fuel and take it for a spin this weekend.Oh by the way had it going 75mph on the lift:) | |
