That's a great photo! NHRef Mar 2nd, 2008, 06:59 PM All my photos have been been entered into my CMS for viewing, including captions and descriptions.
If there are any errors or omissions, let me know.
There are also daily route maps to reference where I/we went.

Finally making time to see everyone's photos. Ross, I like the way yours were organized by day.
BTW, there is plenty of space to the right of your garage to add another bay for a MINI! Oldpaint Mar 2nd, 2008, 09:28 PM I just sampled the Screech. Very smooth and effective! Thank you Geowit! Funny you should mention that. After I file my corporate taxes later today and watch an unexpected $15K walk out the door ( ouch! ), I'm off to the architect's office to craft precisely such an addition.
However, the extra room will more likely house a larger snow blower, and our new Leviathan-sized double stroller.
Ross Oldpaint Mar 5th, 2008, 10:18 AM Well I've bit the bullet and have a fast lane (ez pass) transponder on order.
I'm starting to look at cell phones. Anyone from our northern adventures want to comment on coverage in Canada with US providers? Who do you like? NoNo Mar 5th, 2008, 11:51 AM Sprint always served me well. If you'll recall, I'm usually the only person with a signal once we're north of Montreal. I remember being able to call from Matagami the first year, if that helps you any. With regard to phone service in Newfoundland, there was no GSM (AT&T/Cingular) service from Port Aux Basques all the way to the outskirts of St. John's. However, there was CDMA (Verizon) available throughout. Elsewhere in populous Canada, both standards are fairly covered. I was roaming with an international voice & data plan. Great find. Although I've often seen the results, I've never witnessed that much ice action in person.
Wood-and-stone dock cribs always take damage in winter, and now you see why. Oldpaint Mar 6th, 2008, 09:35 PM ... dulceth ...
You get 10 points for using a word that I hadn't heard before in apparent proper context, but deduct
1 point for spelling...no "h" on the end. NoNo Mar 7th, 2008, 11:53 AM Ooooh, lucky me! Funny, I've never looked the word up, so to my ears it always sounded like it was pronounced "dull-SETH". Somehow, "dull-SET" doesn't have the same ring to it. geowit Mar 7th, 2008, 12:08 PM You should know by now that spelling and pronunciation have no corollary. :D Oldpaint Mar 7th, 2008, 06:39 PM The dulcet Newfie accent makes it sound like "dulceth" uptick Mar 9th, 2008, 06:55 PM My pictures are posted!

Good times! :) ontheroadagain Mar 9th, 2008, 07:34 PM Wow - phenomenal photographs - what a trip! Now I just need a voice over sound track for that slide show. Beautiful, Peter!
What a great trip you all had! Oldpaint Mar 9th, 2008, 09:21 PM Great Pictures! uptick Mar 11th, 2008, 02:11 AM Thanks.
BB, we'll see you on the next trip, right? ;) ontheroadagain Mar 12th, 2008, 02:15 PM Oh, Peter - I don't know...maybe if I can ride in what I think is that BMW SUV. :p Really, though - it must have been fantastic to see all that you saw and to have fun, too.
How about a MINI trip to Glacier National Park?:D I'll have my Clubman in May and be ready for the fall or next year in the summer. NHRef Mar 21st, 2008, 12:58 AM Play On went to the shop a week ago Monday to have the damaged bumper repaired and came home today.
Turns out it was more than a gaping hole . . .
Radiator mount was busted as was the compressor (no wonder the temp spiked while driving around Boston just before taking it to the shop).
Total cost was $2,600, most of which was picked up by insurance.
Also found out the adjustable camber plate on the passenger side strut is shot, hence the "clunking" sound whenever I hit a bump. ontheroadagain Mar 21st, 2008, 02:03 AM Sounds as though you were lucky to have made it back without having to stop and get it fixed up North. Glad the insurance has covered most of it! Oldpaint Mar 21st, 2008, 09:43 AM Glad its fixed. I think that gives you a third place finish, after the rollover and spider spikes.
I hate to think what the total damage to all cars over the years on this trip has been. geowit Mar 21st, 2008, 04:21 PM Yeah, I just had a ton of repairs too. All that mileage is starting to catch up with me. The SES and ASC lights came on and it went into limp mode. I replaced the MAP and T-MAP sensors and also put on a Detroit Tuned bypass valve. That cleared most of the codes but I couldn't figure out why I was still getting a P0107 and an N/A so I broke down and took it to the dealer. :aargh: They replaced an O2 sensor and the engine wiring harness to the T-MAP sensor. They said the harness was worn through the insulation. Might be good to put extra insulation on it as it's located directly behind the grille. NHRef Mar 21st, 2008, 05:25 PM Glad its fixed. I think that gives you a third place finish, after the rollover and spider spikes.

Although, the cinder block chunk of ice could've happened anywhere . . . At least it didn't happen in Baulene or North West River or Radisson!
The problem with the camber plate may have been caused (or the final straw may have been) on the ferry ride over. That noise, which at the time I thought was related to the ice incident, is what led me to stop and check under the hood, which led to the hood falling . . .
So, maybe the incident is worthy of third place! LePew Mar 22nd, 2008, 05:14 PM Glad to see you're back together Pete.
In other news, the MV Caribou was stuck in the ice for two days this week - sick passenger airlifted in dramatic rescue -- you Arctic Runners dodged a big bullet this time!

The bottle of Screech is empty. NHRef Mar 22nd, 2008, 09:51 PM Glad to see you're back together Pete.

Just think how desperate things must have been when they ran out of scrambled eggs and poutine!
Hopefully there were no cattle on board . . . NoNo Mar 24th, 2008, 12:39 PM No, there's provisions for 9 days! Just sit back and enjoy. If the ice is that thick, can't you just get out and walk? NHRef Mar 25th, 2008, 12:06 AM No, there's provisions for 9 days! Just sit back and enjoy. If the ice is that thick, can't you just get out and walk?
Sure, why no? We walked on the Arctic Ocean, we can walk on the Cabot Strait! Oldpaint Mar 25th, 2008, 10:08 AM You might walk, but your car is still on the ferry. NHRef Mar 26th, 2008, 03:50 AM Alright!
Pete E and one of his new techs Daryl fixed the problem that caused the clunking sound that made me check while in Baie Comeaux when it was windy and the bonnet fell on my hand :D
Turns out the nut on top of the passenger front strut was loose. Took an hour to diagnose and be done.
But, while the MINI was on the lift I noticed the new fog light did not match the original and was loose, so it's back to the body shop . . . | |
