As I pointed out, white is used for both mountain tops and sea level. Why, I don't know. I guess because you have snow above a certain elevation and snow is white. I also noted the link with developed areas. Zoomed out, I think the terrain model is pretty accurate. As you zoom in, you're probably trying to isolate something that's too difficult to define at that scale. I'd elaborate more, but I see it's 4:30, and that means my day here is done. NOT A SECOND LONGER!

Just ordered my Tour du Nord IV long sleeve shirt and bumper stickers! David's updated the map to show our two TdN II northern most spurs.

Alas I'll be working through thru Feb and missing out of the fun two times zones away.

In other issues, I think white sea level areas may be brackish salty flats.

Just drove through the Airline on Monday. Took about 90 minutes from Bangor to Calais. Things have greatly improved over the last 20 years or so. Lots of passing lanes to get pass those large trucks, but when they have an empty load, look out..... Frost heaves had started.

St. John's is a blast. Wish I was visiting George Street. Have fun and safe travels.

Thanks for the road info. How was the law enforcement level? Is 90 minutes common? Various software indicates just over 2 hours for those 98 miles to I-95, but I am skeptical. How about timing for Sherbrooke to Bangor? Anyone done that leg before?

We'll be passing you [Rothesay, NB] on the 15th. Be sure to wave!

The Bell NHS is under renovations, so I was unable to get us a tour.

On the plus side, it makes our schedule less tight, which means I won't be biting my nails. It also means less of a rush at Hopewell.

Working? What's that?

Don't the "workees" employing "workers" have their priorities straight?

Well, this should make things really interesting at sea - where we will be just NEXT WEEK!

Gary King and MOP have stepped up again!

I'll pick up some "loaner" parts on Monday. If we need them, we have them and will pay for them on our return. Don't use them and I'll simply return the parts.

Way to go, MOP!

Folks, if you haven't recently, please update the spares checklist on Google by Tuesday evening so we can see the gaps. Txs! :D

Although all the items are important, we should make sure that at least one or two of the following are carried along:

12v work light
Booster cables
Breaker bar
Come-alon
Fire extinguisher
Flares
Gas can
Jack (floor type)
Pry bar
Spare wheel/tire (one for each side)
Traffic cones (2 to 4)

I've updated my column on the list and have started loading up, with the floor jack and a couple of
short 2 x 10's to drive the car onto to make it easier to jack up. The two tow hooks are on the car!

Still wish I could have made this trip but it was better off I backed out when I did. One of my employees just quit which means I would have been been forced to work instead of taking any days off. :frown:

Everyone have fun and a safe trip.

Stepping out into the brisk wind this morning, it made me extra glad I'll be in my nice, semi-warm house next weekend. If it's this windy here, I can only imagine what the Wreckhouse is like

Folks meeting in Portsmouth . . . Interested in a 30 - 60 minute stop at LL Bean in Freeport ME? We (kinda sorta) go right by it on the way north.

That's a loaded question, actually . . . My 30 year old Maine Hiking Boots need new soles and I was thinking of dropping them off. I could ship them, of course, but that's not the same as poking around the store looking for stuff I didn't know I needed . . .

I just found my $10 LL Bean gift card that expires on the 19th. Now I'll be enthusiastic about this.

That's from accuweather. You always hear their meteorologists prattling on about "copping a reel feel". Is that also true about Mt Washington Observatory folks NHREF? :D

Well, in case the cold is not your cup-o-tea, there's always the "British Car Day" (http://www.britishcardays.com/) bridge crossing to P.E.I. in the summer!

Just bring the mosquito scraper instead.

I decided to be smart and make sure my car - which I haven't used since October - will start.

No such luck. The battery is about as low as they come without being completely dead. Good thing I'm trying this today when it's -17C outside, and not yesterday, when it was a lot closer to freezing. ;)

So, I get out the battery charger. During this process, it falls off the storage racks and puts a nice big dent in my driver door. I've owned this car for 9 years without denting it. Argh.

So my wife says: "Well, now you can't sell it." Of course, if I was honest with myself, I never really wanted to sell the car. I love it when she says what I secretly want in my heart. Which she knows, of course.

Environment Canada has us pegged for a warm run through the Maritimes on Friday, but 10cm of snow through Newfoundland on Saturday, and freezing rain on Monday when we leave St. John's.
